HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY

Health and Injuries Insurance Policy

You can buy a private one in your Country or at your arrival in Italy valid till the end of the year (31st December), and then you can register in the National Health Service. The Italian National Health Service is called “Servizio Sanitario Nazionale” (SSN). Non EU Students may apply for voluntary registration with the National Health Service and with a General Practitioner, by paying an annual lump sum fee.

If you have a health insurance (taken out in Italy or in your own country) for the duration of the study programme you may go to any General Practitioner (“medico di famiglia”), choosing one from the list of doctors published on the website www.salute.bologna.it .

If you need a specialist treatment, you can choose which doctor to go to directly, also on the advice of your chosen GP. You must pay for the visits to the GP and any specialists, and then apply to your insurance company for a refund.
