The GIOCA Program boasts an esteemed teaching body of Italian and international professors directly involved in research activity in cultural organizations and professionals of the cultural sector who provide a practical view-point of the cultural world. James Abruzzo
James Abruzzo is an internationally recognized non-profit management consultant, researcher and educator. He currently serves as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Nonprofit Practice of DHR International. As a management consultant, he has provided ongoing strategic advice to many national and international nonprofit organizations and to local organizations including the Newark Museum and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. He taught at Columbia University and currently has an academic relationship with the nonprofit management Program at the Free University of Berlin, Germany. For the GIOCA Program, James Abruzzo is currently teaching the laboratory of “Management of the Performing Arts”.
Ugo Bacchella
Ugo Bacchella is President of Fondazione Fitzcarraldo based in Torino, which is an historical partner of the GIOCA Program. He works as manager of cultural training programs, with specific relevant experience in project management and research. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching “Project Management for Arts Organizations”.
Jonathan Baker
Jonathan Baker attended The Boston Conservatory of Music while in High School and graduated from the University of Michigan with concentrations in Music, Philosophy and Religion. He studied film and television directing and acting at the University of California, Los Angeles Extension Program. While in New York, he worked on Wall Street at Solomon Brothers Asset Management in Institutional Sales while financing and developing Off-Broadway theatre. He moved to Broadway at The Nederlander Producing Company of America and, in Los Angeles, he also worked as consultant for Sony’s International Television department. Jonathan Baker teaches feature film and entertainment economics at Carnegie Mellon’s Master of Entertainment Industry Management Program.
For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching the laboratory of “Management of the film industry”.
Jadranka Bentini
Jadranka Bentini has been Director of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza – Foundation. She was manager of MIBAC (Ministero dei Beni Culturali) for the preservation of the Cultural Heritage and Cultural Affair for PSAE (Soprintendenza per il Patrimonio Storico, Artistico ed Etnoantropologico) in Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini and for PSAE in Modena and Reggio Emilia; Director of the National Art Gallery in Bologna and Director of the National Art Gallery in “Palazzo Diamanti” in Ferrara. For the GIOCA program, she is teaching “Art appreciation”.
Luca Bersaglia
Cristina Boari
Cristina Boari is full professor of Business Strategy at the University of Bologna. She is the former Dean of the Department of Management and coordinator of the PhD program in Business strategy and Organization, University of Bologna. In the past she was associate professor in Business Strategy at the University of Florence (1987- 1991) and at the University of Bologna (1992-1994). She was Research fellow in Management at the University of Bologna (1983-1987). She was NATO Fellow at the Institute of Business Research of the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and CNR Junior Research Fellow at the Graduate school of Business of the University of Wisconsin. She has extensively published on issues related to clusters, networks and social network analysis in particular. For the GIOCA Program, she is currently teaching “Managing Networks in the Arts”.
Vittorio Boarini
Sara Bonini Baraldi
Sara Bonini Baraldi (PhD in Business Administration, University of Bologna) is a Researcher and Assistant professor at the School of Economics, University of Bologna. She has published on issues related to cultural policies and public management and she collaborates with the Fondazione Fitzcarraldo, Torino. She was also lecturer at the School of Communication Science, University of Bologna. For the GIOCA Program, she is currently teaching “New Public Management” and "Reporting budget and business plan".
Giorgio Bolondi
Giorgio Bolondi (PhD, University of Nizza) is Full Professor at the School of Economics, University of Bologna. He has internationally published on issues related to Geometry and Analysis. He is currently studying how mathematical knowledge is transmitted in history and education and he is collaborating with the “Laboratorio di Ricerca sulla Didattica e la Divulgazione della Matematica” of the University of Trento, the “Centro Studi Enriques” in Leghorn, the “Centro Pristem” of the Università Commerciale Bocconi, the Istituto Nazionale per la Valutazione (INVALSI) and several Museums and Science Centers for educational and popularization activities. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching the laboratory of “Museum and scientific institutions”.
Furio Camillo
Furio Camillo is Associate Professor in Statistics at the School of Economics, University of Bologna. He worked as researcher for Somea (Società per la Matematica e l’Economia Applicata) in Rome, and for Prometeia Calcolo in Bologna. He has published on issues related to Customer Satisfaction, Customer Relationship Management, Conjoint Analysis, data mining and so on. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching “Analytical Customer Relationship Management”.
Laura Carlini
Laura Carlini is an art historian and manager for the “Servizio Musei e Beni Culturali” of the IBACN (Istituto Beni Artistici Culturali e Naturali dell’Emilia Romagna). She worked for Nomisma, managing cultural projects in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Cultural Heritage. For the GIOCA Program, she is currently teaching the laboratory of “Management of the Visual Arts”.
Luca Dal Pozzolo
Luca Dal Pozzolo is Vice President and Head of the Research Unit of the Fondazione Fitzcarraldo, Torino, and Director of the Cultural Observatory of Regione Piemonte. He is an architect and professor at the Polytechnic, Torino. He has directed several research studies on cultural policy, on the economy of cultural activities, on the management and sustainability of cultural organisations and on the audiences of performing arts, museums and heritage. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching “Regional cultural policies”.
Marta De la Torre
Yu Ding
As the current vice president of the School of Humanities, CAFA and Director of the Arts Management Department, Yu Ding has participated in the international Association of Arts administrator Educators (AAAE) Conference and made his speech. In 2006 he was invited to visit the Arts Management Department of Columbia University and teach there. Thus Joan Jeffri, the dean of this department as well as former president of the Institute of International Art Management Education, Prof. and Yu Ding co-published “Respect for Art: Visual Arts Administration and Management in China and the United States.
For the GIOCA Program, she is currently teaching the laboratory of “Management of heritage management".
David Ellner
David Eller joined New York University Stern School of Business as an Adjunct Professor of Marketing in 2000, where he teaches an M.B.A. course in business entertainment.
Professor Ellner is also the President of Digital and Business Development for 19 Entertainment, home of the hit television series American Idol. Professor Ellner possesses 25 years experience in the entertainment industry; holding positions in finance, management and new technologies. Professor Ellner graduated from SUNY Albany, he is a C.P.A. and he earned an M.B.A. from NYU Stern.
For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching the laboratory of “Management of music and new media".
Daniele Fabbri
Daniele Fabbri (1990 University of Bologna, Laurea in Economics, Summa cum Laude; 1996 Department of Economics, University of Ancona, Ph.D. in Economics) is Researcher at the School of Economics, University of Bologna. He is affiliated with Centre for Household, Income, Labour and Demographic Economics (CHILD-University of Turin) and Health, Econometrics and Data Group (HEDG-University of York). For the GIOCA Program, Daniele Fabbri is currently teaching “Principle of Public economics”.
Simone Ferriani
Simone Ferriani is Associate Professor of Management at the University of Bologna. He received his PhD from the Management Department of the University of Bologna, with a concentration in interorganizational networks and small firms clusters. He has been a visiting scholar at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and at the Stern School of Business, New York University. After obtaining the PhD he received a Marie Curie Fellowship from the EU to do research at Cass Business School, City University London and a Research Fellowship to work at the Centre for Technology Management of the University of Cambridge. He is also an AIM Fellow and a lifetime member of Clare-Hall College in Cambridge. His research interests include entrepreneurship, creativity, and interorganizational networks. For the GIOCA Program, Simone Ferriani is currently teaching “Knowledge Management in Arts Organizations”.

Graduated in philosophy (Philosophy of science) at the State University of Milan. Researcher at the University of Lancaster (1982-1986). Marcello M. Mariani
Marcello M. Mariani is Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Bologna. He received his PhD in Business Administration from the Management Department of the University of Bologna, with a concentration in make or buy decisions and inter-organizational coopetitive dynamics. He has been a visiting scholar at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh (USA) and at the School of Business, University of Technology, Sydney (Australia) and the Stern School of Business, New York University, New York (USA). His studies are focused on management of creative industries and performing arts, performance measurement for non-profit organizations, competition strategy and Digital Rights Management. For the GIOCA Program, Marcello Mariani is currently teaching “Business models in Creative Industries”.
Mary Navarro
Mary Navarro has more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, working as a grantmaker, fundraiser, project manager, and teacher. Currently she is a consultant based in Pittsburgh PA with expertise in the arts and culture, public art, design, and community development sectors. She is an adjunct faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College Arts Management Program. Mary received a master’s in public management from Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College, and a bachelor’s in urban studies from Bradford College. She has been a co-chair of the Urban Design Committee of the Riverlife Task Force in Pittsburgh and a council member for the Public Art Network, a national organization. She currently serves on the boards of Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development, and the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. For the GIOCA Program, Mary Navarro is currently teaching “Fundraising”.
Giovanni Masino
Giovanni Masino (PhD in Business Administration, University of Bologna) is Associate Professor in Organization at the School of Economics, University of Ferrara. He has been Visiting Fellow at the Sociology Department, University of North Carolina, U.S.A., and Visiting Scholar presso il C.E.R.T.O.P. (Centre de Recherche, Techniques, Organisations, Pouvoir), Maison de la Recherche, Université de Toulouse le Mirail, e presso il LAAS-CNRS (Laboratoire d’Analyse et d’Architecture des Systèmes), Tolosa, Francia. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching the crash course in “Organization".
Davide Morante
Fabiola Naldi
Fabiola Naldi collaborates within the Contemporary Art course at the Visual Art Department, School of Humanities, University of Bologna. She teaches “Fenomenologia dell’Immagine” at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna. She writes for Flash Art, Around Photography and Sentire Ascoltare.com and she works as curator. For the GIOCA Program, she teaches a seminar on “Contemporary Art”.
Chiara Orsingher
Chiara Orsingher (Phd in Business Administration, Institut d’Administration des Enterprises di Aix-en-Provence) is an Associate Professor in Marketing for the School of Economics, University of Bologna. Her fields of research are related to customer satisfaction and management of services. For the GIOCA Program, she is currently teaching “Services Marketing”.
Daniele Pini
Daniele Pini is an architect and Associate Professor in Urban Planning at the School of Architecture, University of Ferrara. He took part to several projects within the Universities of Dublin, London, Darmstadt, Salonicco, New Delhi, Rouen, Aix-En-Provence, Leuven and he is UNESCO consultant. As researcher his interests focused on urban regeneration dynamics with particular attention to historical centres and infrastructures. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching “Urban Planning and Cultural Development”.
Luca Roffia
In 2001, he graduated in Computer Science at the Engineering Department of the University of Bologna, with a thesis on "3D Interactive Graphics and Videogame Engine". In 2005, he obtained the PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bologna defending a thesis on "Context Related Information Sharing and Retrieval in Mobile Cultural Heritage Applications". He is currently teaching "Computer Architecture" at the II Faculty of Engineering Cesena, and for the GIOCA Program he is currently the laboratory of "Information Technology and Arts Organizations".

Maria Giulia Roversi Monaco
Maria Giulia Roversi Monaco is Associate Professor in Administrative Law at the School of Economics, University of Bologna. Her fields of research are related to the public services and the policies of privatisation, the application of the EC legislation concerning the public contracts, the role and nature of public undertakings. She is also a practicing lawyer since 1994 and her field of specialisation is administrative law. She is member of the Italian society of administrative lawyers. She teaches International Market Regulation in the Graduate Degree in International Management and UE Public Law of Economics within the Degree in Law and Economics. For the GIOCA Program, Maria Giulia Roversi Monaco is currently teaching “Law and the Arts” and since 2008/09 she is Director of the Program.
Marco Santoro
Marco Santoro is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the Statistic department, Università di Bologna. He obtained the PhD in Sociology and Social Research, Università di Trento and a Post-doc Fellowship, Università di Bologna. He has been a lecturer in History of Political Institutions, Università Cattolica di Milano and a Visiting fellow at the School of Economic and Social Studies, University of East Anglia (UK) and at Department of Sociology, London University, Goldsmith College. For GIOCA, he is currently teaching the course “Sociology of territory and culture”.
Tilman Seebass
Tillman Seebass, graduated at the Universities of Basel and Heidelberg (musicology, history, German literature), has then been a Research fellow of the Swiss National Funds for Scientific Research with field work in Indonesia (Bali and Lombok) and the Managing director of 'Haus der Bucher' Rare Books, Basel. From 1977 to 1993 he was Full Professor at Duke University, NC, USA and Professor and Head of the Institute of Musicology, University of Innsbruck, Austria. Various guest professorships in the US and Europe and Japan. Concerning honors and offices, he has been President of the Austrian Society of Musicology (1996-2000), Vice-President of the International Musicological Society (2002-), Member Executive Board of the International Council for Traditional Music (1999-), Professor honoris causa, Yünnan University, Kunming, PRC. Seebass main research areas are the music of Indonesia and musical iconography. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching the seminar on “Music Appreciation”.
Daniele Senzani
Daniele Senzani is Associated Professor of Public Law at the University of Bologna and at SPISA. He's member of EUNIP (European network for industrial Policy) and has been visiting researcher at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. His research about the regulation of the public contracts has been accepted at the Human Capital and Mobility Program of the European Commission. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching "Law and Economics of New Media".
Angela Serra
Giorgio Tassinari
Giorgio Tassinari è professore ordinario di Statistica aziendale dal 1994. Attualmente insegna presso la Facoltà di Economia dell'Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna. I suoi interessi di ricerca riguardano principalmente problematiche microeconomiche, e negli anni più recenti l'attività si è principalmente concentrata sull'analisi dell'efficacia degli strumenti di marketing. I progetti di ricerca in corso includono l'analisi dell'impatto del prezzo di riferimento e della fedeltà di marca nei modelli di scelta tra marche, la stima delle relazioni tra investimenti pubblicitari, ricordo, notorietà di marca e gradimento della pubblicità, l'analisi del mercato del lavoro italiano con particolare riguardo alle transizioni da lavoro precario a lavoro a tempo indeterminato e all'impatto del tipo di contratto di lavoro sulla probabilità di infortunio.
Dal 2006 fa parte del Comitato di Direzione della rivista scientifica "Statistica". E' stato direttore del Dipartimento di Scienze Statistiche “Paolo Fortunati” dell'Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna negli anni accademici dal 2000-2001 al 2005-2006. Dal 2002 al 2006 ha fatto parte del Consiglio Direttivo della Società Italiana di Statistica.

Michele Trimarchi
Michele Trimarchi (PhD. in Economics, Buckingham, UK) is Professor in Economic Analysis of Law at the University of Catanzaro. He has extensively published on issues related to cultural economics, local finance and economic analysis of the electoral market. Among his numerous activities, he is consultant of the Osservatorio Regionale dello Spettacolo in Emilia-Romagna, he is senior partner of ECCOM-European Centre for Cultural Organisation and Management and member of the executive board of the Italian Association for Cultural Economics and of the editorial advisory board of the journal “Economia della Cultura”. Since 2008, he is President of the Teatro Stabile d’Abruzzo. For the GIOCA Program, he is currently teaching “Cultural Economics”.
Deniz Unsal
Luca Zan
Luca Zan is professor of Management at the School of Economics, University of Bologna, and teaches Critical Studies and Arts Management at GIOCA. He was the Director of GIOCA, 2002-2008. Since 2004, he is also visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. He published extensively on issues related to strategy, managerial rhetoric, cultural management (museums and cultural heritage in particular). He worked on several projects concerning Cultural Heritage in China, Management and Accounting at the Venice Arsenal, the Brutish Museum. He also works on performing arts, where he recently edited a research report on public funding for the Ministry of Culture. Prof. Zan teaches the course "Heritage, History and the issue of managing" and the course "Critical studies and arts management".
