TEACHING REGULATIONS FOR THE DEGREE COURSE IN SCIENCE FOR THE CONSERVATION-RESTORATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

Art.1 Entry Requirements

To profitably attend a second-level degree course in Science for the conservation-restoration of cultural heritage it is necessary to have acquired basic knowledge in the scientific disciplines (chemistry, physics, geology, mathematics, informatics, etc.) as well as further knowledge in conservation (archaeology, art history, architectural restoration, etc.).

The admission to the second-level degree course is subordinated to the verification of the candidate's suitable personal knowledge that can be verified through the analysis of his/her curriculum to which an interview can follow according to fixed modalities and criteria set up by the second-level Degree Course Council

Moreover, the following entry requirements are required in order to be admitted to the second-level degree course:

- a degree in one of the following classes, or a certificate of study obtained abroad and recognised as being suitable:

ex-D.M. 270: under graduate degree L-43 -Tecnologie per la conservazione e restauro dei beni culturali

ex-D.M. 509/99: under graduate degree Classe 41 - Tecnologie per la conservazione e restauro dei beni culturali

Previgente ordinamento: D.U. “Tecnico per la diagnostica applicata al restauro e conservazione dei beni culturali”

- previous three/four-year University system degree:

BSc in Art Conservation

BSc in Art Restoration (of Cultural heritage)

BSc in Heritage/Historic preservation

BASc/BAS - Bachelor of Applied Science

BSc in Science

In accordance with the agreement signed by the University of Bologna and the Art Institute of Nanjing (China), the Chinese student coming from this Institute will be admitted to the second level degree course only if they have satisfactory completed the first year of study jointly organised and implemented with this second level degree course in Science for the conservation-restoration of cultural heritage.

Admission to the second-level degree course is subject to the possession of predefined curricular requirements and to the assessment of suitable personal preparation ascertained through one's University career. This may be followed by an interview according to modalities, criteria and procedures decided upon by the Degree Course Council and duly published on the University website.

If the basic knowledge cannot be certified, the admission to the second-level Degree Course is subject to a preliminary assessment by a Commission that ascertains, by means of interview, the skills and competencies required.

The Commission, appointed by the council of the second-level degree course, will arrange a schedule, from September to December, for the interviews, which will be published on the University's website.

If the Commission considers the level of the student's knowledge and competences to be satisfactory, the student is allowed to enrol in the second-level Degree Course in Science for the conservation-restoration of cultural heritage.

The assessment of a suitable personal preparation is considered to be satisfied by the possession of the curricular requirements, however ascertained.

Art.2 Mobility Rules between Degree Course Curricula. Individual Study Plan.

Individual study plans are not permitted.

Art.3 Methods for the academic activities and types of teaching

According to Clause 23, Paragraph 1, of the University Regulations, the enclosed teaching plan indicates the methods of each teaching activity and its relative subdivision into hours of classroom lectures, practical exercises or training, laboratories, as well as other different kinds of teaching activities.

Any further information will be published yearly in the Student handbook.

Art.4 Attendance and propedeutic courses

Compulsory attendance of teaching activities is indicated within the enclosed didactic plan, as well as any possible propedeutic course.

Methods and assessment of the compulsory attendance, where it is provided, are set each year by the Degree Course during the teaching planning presentation and are made known to the students, through the Student handbook, before the beginning of the lectures.

Art.5 Assessment Test for teaching activities

The attached teaching plan list the teaching activities that will have a final examination with the marked on a scale of 30 (18/30 being the minimum pass mark) or will simply provide the acquisition of the necessary competences.

According to the principles set down in Clause 24, Paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 the University Regulations, the methods for the assessment (e.g. oral, written or practical forms or any possible combination of the three; individual or group assessment) are set yearly by the Degree Course teaching plan presentation, and are made known to the students, through the Student Handbook, before the beginning of the lectures.

Art.6 Teaching activities autonomously chosen by the student

The student can indicate, as teaching activities independently chosen, one or more subjects/teaching activities provided by the Faculty from among those identified by the Degree Course (suggested choice) and provided in the enclosed teaching plan/ the Degree Course yearly plans and made known through the University website.

If the student wants to take an exam related to a subject which is not provided by the Faculty or by the Degree Course Council, he/she must ask the Degree Course Council for the permission to take that specific exam within the terms determined yearly and made known through their publication on the University website. The Council will assess the compatibility of the choice with the student's learning itinerary.

Art. 7 Criteria for the recognition of credits earned within the Degree Course belonging to the same area of study (class).

The University credits achieved are recognized, provided that they reach the number of credits required by the same disciplinary scientific field.

If, once the credits have been recognized according to what is provided by the currently applicable Regulations, there are extra credits, the Degree Course Council can decide to recognize them after evaluating the specific case according to teaching affinity and cultural aspects.

Art. 8 Recognition criteria of the credits achieved in a Degree Course belonging to a different class, within telematic Universities and international Degree Courses

The University credits achieved are recognized by the Degree Course Council according to the following criteria:

- course contents

- evaluation of the congruence of the disciplinary scientific fields and of the contents of the academic activities with the same specific learning outcomes of the Degree Course and of the single academic activities that need to be recognized, for which the student has earned credits. All of this pursues the aim of promoting student mobility.

Recognition is possible if the student has achieved the number of University credits provided by the teaching regulations of the degree course in Science for the conservation-restoration of cultural heritage.

If there are extra credits once the credits have been recognized according to what is laid down by the current regulations, the Degree Course Council can decide to recognize them after evaluating the specific case according to teaching affinity and cultural aspects.

Art. 9 Recognition criteria of extra-University competencies and skills

Competencies achieved outside the University are recognized in the following cases:

1. professional competencies and skills certified according to the applicable laws;

2. when the competencies and skills have been achieved within Post-Graduate teaching activities organized or offered by a University.

Recognition will be determined by the Degree Course Council taking into account the guidelines indicated by the Academic Bodies and the maximum number of credits that can be recognized in accordance with regulations of the Degree Course, and the maximum number of recognizable credits.

Recognition is possible if the academic activity complies with the specific learning outcomes agreed for the Degree Course and the activities that are due to be recognized, provided that they fulfill the required content and duration (credits) of the activity carried out.

Art. 10 Final examination methods

The final examination consists in the presentation of an original thesis work, either experimental or theoretical, developed on a specific subject and written by the student. This aims at verifying the student's acquired experience and the student's activities performed during the training period in a research laboratory or equivalent institution. The final oral examination will also verify the student's capacity of designing project and exploiting to the final outcomes in an autonomous way and the student's capability of clearly presenting and discussing his/her results.

Art. 11 Correspondence between the credits assigned to each teaching activity and the specific learning outcomes determined.

The Teaching Commission on 19/02/2010 approved according to clause 12, paragraph 3 of DM 270/04.

Art. 12 Temporary regulations

The Degree Course Council, according to the changes to the teaching plan, decides on the regulations to be complied with by the students enrolled in the previous academic years of the Degree Course, to be published in the academic programme.
