Graduation: application, deadlines and final dissertation

Final examination general information

At the end of their study path, students are admitted to their final exam, consisting in the public presentation of a project to the Graduation Board.

The Graduation Board may ask you in-depth questions on methods, results and any developments of your work. The Board will assess your performance in determining your final grade.

For guidelines about the final dissertation, please download the PDF in the attachement section (right side)

In order to be admitted to the graduation session, you must have earned the credits from all of the modules and learning activities except the “final exam” (that is, when you have earned and registered at least 177 credits). You can choose different graduation sessions, according to when you manage to finish your exams: July, September, October, or March. The earlier you graduate, the more bonus points you may be awarded.

Graduation application

To submit your application online, you must access Studenti Online before the deadlines set for the application submission and the requirements.

  • The application will open 20 days before each deadline from Studenti Online (“Graduation” button).
  • You can apply for graduation and pay such fee only once per academic year, and you will be requested to pay an administrative fee (€32). A late payment fee of €100 will automatically apply.
  • You are strongly recommended to apply for graduation only if you are sure to complete all of your exams by the deadlines.
  • If you applied by the deadline but, for any reason, you cannot graduate in the session you applied for (e.g. if you realize you will not have completed all of your exams by the deadlines), you must promptly notify the Registrar Office by email (segecosta@unibo.it, with the Programme Coordinator angela.adamo3@unibo.it), from your @studio.unibo.it email address. The Registrar Office will cancel your reservation and allow you to book one of the following sessions in the same academic year. In this case, no further fees are due.
  • If you apply for graduating in a given academic year, but you realize you cannot graduate within any of the sessions available in that academic year (1.July, 2.September, 3.October, 4.March), you will have to re-apply for graduating in the next academic year and pay the €16 electronic duty stamp fee (after having paid the overdue tuition fees)
  • When applying for graduation you have to submit online also the title of your final project. The Course Director will assess it and approve it, or s/he may ask you to edit it.
  • We strongly recommend you apply for graduation and write your project title when such title is actually ready and not provisional: please do not add any comments or sentences such as “provisional title” etc. If you wish to get advice or need to negotiate the title, please get in touch with the Course Director first, by email and as early as possible.
  • In case of problems with the system, please email cesia.assistenzadidattica@unibo.it explaining kind of problem/error that you are experiencing, your first and last name and your student number. If possible, please provide a screenshot.

MANDATORY RULES TO APPLY TO THE GRADUATION SESSION:

  1. Before starting to write the dissertation, it is mandatory for students to contact a Professor of a pertinent subject and decide the title of the work together.
  2. The final paper must be of about 25 to 30 pages.
  3. The bibliography must contain at least two scientific papers
  4. Once the title and the bibliography have been approved by the chosen Professor, students have to send and email to the Programme Coordinator (Chiara Orsingher <chiara.orsingher@unibo.it>), with the Professor in cc, letting her know about it.

ATTENTION! Should you not follow these last steps, the Programme Coordinator shall not approve your title on Studentionline and you won't be able to graduate.

Admission Requirements

In order to graduate, you must have:

  • sat all the exams in your study plan and had them recorded;
  • paid all tuition fees;
  • filled in the Alma Laurea questionnaire on Studenti Online.

The Student Administration Office will verify all requirements and will contact you if there are any issues, to allow you to regularise your position before the final examination.

The graduation application is valid for just one graduation session. If you graduate in a later session, you will have to submit your graduation application and pay only the duty stamp again.

Sending the Final Paper

You have to email the final version of your paper, in .pdf format as an attachment, within the relevant deadline, to didatticasociale.tutorclabe@unibo.it. You have to send it from your @studio.unibo.it email address and the object of the email should be: CLABE graduation mm/20yy (that is, month +year) final paper.

Within the body of the email please state:

- your full name (first and last name);

- your student number (matricola);

- your degree course (CLABE 8965);

- your graduation month and year;

- your final paper’s title.

The first page in the file you will send must be that in the attachment box (cover page format).

Power Point for thesis discussion

For online graduations it is mandatory to use a Power Point presentation (PDFs, or similar formats are accepted as well).

For discussions in presence, it is not mandatory, but suggested.
