Migration from, to and within Europe: Economic and Social Opportunities and Costs

International Conference

from 19 June 2019 at 12:00 to 21 June 2019 at 13:00

Room 3.3

The conference addresses a variety of migration issues in Europe, ranging from the economic opportunities provided by incoming migrants to their host countries to immigrants’ contribution to filling job vacancies, providing services to an ageing population, and reducing the pension gap. If immigration can be economically beneficial for host countries, in terms of new labour force inputs and entrepreneurial forces, the conference also relates to migrants as feeding social, economic and cultural pressures that need to be taken into account in planning for future policies and welfare services. The latter pose a vital challenge and crucially influence the success of second generations’ education and integration prospects. The ultimate aim of this international conference is to improve understanding of the effect that different forms of migration have had and will continue to exert on economic and social change in receiving countries.

The members of the Scientific Committee are: Francesca Fauri, Debora Mantovani, Gianmarco Ottaviano, Matteo Sanfilippo and Donatella Strangio.

The conference is organized by Francesca Fauri and Fabio Casini (Director, Punto Europa in Forlì) within the framework of professor Fauri’s Jean Monnet Chair activities, with the additional financial contribution of the Forlì Campus and the Department of Economics of the University of Bologna.
