The fifth edition of the Cinema & Architecture Festival, "CINEMA AS PROJECT", will take place throughout the month of May. It is the result of a collaboration between the Department of Architecture and the Cineteca di Bologna.

The 2026 edition explores the close relationship between cinema and architecture, reflecting on the "construction" of an idea, of the actual project behind both a movie and a building. For both disciplines (and the same could be said of literature, painting, music, etc.), this means believing that cinema and architecture are precise, rationally constructed fields, where every choice carries a defined meaning.

This informed the selection of films — and constructions — which are outcomes of a practice in which critical reflection and creative activity are inseparable: works by directors and architects who understand the development of their research as a constant deepening of their own themes. And the finest works show us that the more stubbornly or fixedly a result is pursued, the more unexpected it turns out to be.

Each screening, in original language with Italian subtitles, will be introduced by a faculty member from the Department of Architecture.
