The curricular internship and the final examination internship:
All students intending to undertake an internship are required to complete the mandatory training on health and safety.
Before submitting an internship application, students must identify and contact a faculty member in the relevant field in which they wish to carry out the internship. The faculty member, acting as the academic supervisor, will oversee the internship throughout its duration, even if the activity is carried out at external institutions.
Contacts with companies are managed by the Internship Office, which can be contacted for information and clarification.
Applications for the curricular internship and/or the the final examination internship must be submitted at least 20 days prior to the start of the activity, in order to allow sufficient time for the approval process to be completed.
To activate the curricular internship and/or the the final examination internship, students must follow all the instructions provided in the “Administrative Procedure” section.
The curricular internship is a compulsory educational experience included in the degree programme curricula. It consists of practical activities carried out at facilities within the University or at external institutions, either in Italy or abroad.
The curricular internship is worth 12 ECTS credits (300 hours). No minimum number of credits earned is required in order to apply for the internship.
The curricular internship must be included in the study plan for the second year and may be undertaken only after the study plan has been correctly submitted and approved.
In preparation for the final examination, students may choose to carry out practical and research activities either at external institutions and companies or at internal University laboratories. These preparatory activities may be recorded in the academic career to specify the nature of the work carried out and will be registered as a pass/fail assessment.
Students who undertake practical activities in preparation for the final examination in Italy or abroad must divide the final examination into two components:
C8616 Final Examination Internship (Italy) + C8615 Final Examination (Thesis efence)
or
C8617 Final Examination Internship (Abroad) + C8615 Final Examination (Thesis efence)
This division must be chosen whenever continuous practical laboratory activities are carried out in preparation for the final examination.
C8616 Final Examination Internship (Italy)
By selecting this activity, the student activates an internship with a duration of 375 hours (15 ECTS credits), which must be completed within 12 months from the start date.
C8617 Final Examination Internship (Abroad)
By selecting this activity, the student prepares the thesis abroad, for example by participating in a University international mobility programme (e.g. Thesis Abroad Call, Erasmus+, etc.). The host institution and the activities to be carried out must be agreed upon with the thesis supervisor. The activity must have a duration of 375 hours (15 ECTS credits).
C8614 Final Examination (Master’s Degree)
By selecting this activity, the student prepares a thesis that does not require continuous attendance at either University facilities or external institutions (companies or organizations).
This activity must always be included in the study plan if activities such as C8616 Final Examination Internship (Italy) or C8617 Final Examination Internship (Abroad) have not been selected.
Affiliated institutions:
Access the internship application system and submit a self-application or apply for predefined internship offers.
Non-affiliated institutions:
The institution (where no relatives or in-laws of the student are employed) must be affiliated before the start of the internship. To initiate the procedure, the student must provide the Internship Office with the name and email address of the company contact person. Please note that the affiliation agreement requires administrative processing time, which cannot be determined in advance; therefore, students are advised to start the process well in advance. Once the affiliation has been completed, access the internship application system and submit a self-application.
The host institution must approve and complete the agreed internship programme through the internship application system, specifying the exact internship period.
Following online authorization and signatures by the Academic Tutor and the Internship Committee, online acceptance and signature by both the Trainee and the Host Institution are required.
The student will then be able to download the attendance register. The internship must be carried out in accordance with the content and schedule indicated in the internship programme.
Upon completion of the procedure, the Internship Office will review the documentation, followed by evaluation by the Academic Tutor.
The official recording of the curricular internship will be carried out by Prof. Barbara Brunetti once notification is received through the application system.
The official recording of the final examination internship will be carried out by Prof. Eleonora Iacono once notification is received through the application system.
In the event of justified and documented impediments, the activity may be suspended or interrupted, subject to prior notification by email to the Internship Office.
The University provides insurance coverage for trainees against workplace accidents and third-party civil liability only for the period expressly authorized and indicated in the internship programme.
In the event of an accident, an email must be sent to: dipscmedvet.amministrazione@unibo.it
Please note that if you are about to graduate, the procedure described in the section “At the End of the Activity” must be completed by the deadlines set for meeting the graduation requirements.
How can we help you: Activate and manage a curricular internship or one for the preparation for the final dissertation, in Italy and abroad, outside of international mobility programmes.
