                                                                                   ***

The internship for preparation for the final examination is a training activity of the course structure diagram, allowing you to acquire part of the credits associated with the final examination. It is an opportunity to acquire practical skills and facilitate a first contact with the world of work.

The internship is activated on the basis of an agreement stipulated between the University of Bologna and the Hosting institution (company, public body, professional firm, etc.) and on the basis of a project agreed with the Supervisor of the final dissertation and the contact person of the Hosting institution.

Who is eligible

Students regularly enrolled in their 2nd year are eligible for internships for the preparation for the final examination.

After having inserted this option in their Study Plan of the 2nd year, students can carry out this internship starting from of the 2nd year of enrolment. They cannot carry out this activity during their 1st year.

Duration

The minimum duration of the internship is established by the degree programme: it is equal to 25 hours for each University educational credit.

For the internship of 6 university credits, the number of hours required is equal to 150.

The amount of hours required can be extended to a maximum of 20% of the foreseen hours, without formal obligations to the internship office, by simple agreement between the intern – the Hosting institution – the University Tutor, if this is necessary for the full achievement of the training objectives of the internship and if the internship period remains as indicated in the internship programme.

The laps of time within which the internship must be completed cannot exceed 12 months. Extensions are not allowed, except in cases of justified and documented suspension. In this case the internship end date will be automatically extended to reach 12 months in total from the actual start.

Of course, it will be possible to finish even earlier when the required hours are reached.

The internship must necessarily be verbalized by the deadline for the possession of the requisites necessary to graduate.

How to choose the Hosting institution

Internships may be carried out in University structures or externally, either in Italy or abroad.
If you wish to carry out the internship abroad, you can participate in the Erasmus+ mobility for Traineeship or you can follow the procedure described here below.

Consult the list of structures that hold agreements with the University and/or internship offers already published on Internships online.

If the Hosting institution does not already have an agreement with the University, it is necessary that the Hosting institution stipulates an agreement first, by following the appropriate procedure. After the agreement has been stipulated, it will be possible to activate the internship.

The internship CANNOT be carried out at a Hosting institution where the legal representative, the cooperation partner or the responsible manager in charge has family ties or affinity within the 2nd degree with the interested student.

How to activate an internship

1) Insert the internship in your study plan.

2) Attend the online course on health and security at work (modules 1 and 2) according to art. 37 c. 2 of D. Lgs. 81/2008 and obtain the related certification.

If you hold already a certification obtained during precedent educational or working activities, you can verify if this might be recognized as equivalent to the attendance of the online course by sending the certification already obtained to spp.formazione@unibo.it.

3) After having agreed with your Supervisor the dissertation project related to an internship, apply exclusively on the Online Internship Platform for internship offers/present your spontaneous application at the Hosting institution you are interested in. Indicate as University Tutor prof. Marica Tolomelli.   Enclose to your request your Curriculum Vitae, a motivation letter and an email of your Supervisor confirming that the internship is coherent with the dissertation project.

4) The internship requests will be validated by the University Tutor you have indicated and by the Internship Committee in charge, with no need to contact them or solicit their reply.

Then follow the procedure that will be indicated by the emails that will be sent to your institutional university account.

5) Download from the Online Internship Database the internship programme, sign it and ask for the signature of the Hosting institution.

6) Upload on the Online Internship Database the internship programme signed by yourself and by the Hosting institution and wait for the validation of the Internship Office.

7) Download the attendance register to be able to start the internship.

N.B. In no case the Internship can start without having completed these steps. The Internship can be carried out only in the period between the start and end dates shown on the internship programme and on the attendance register.

The Course on Health and Safety in the Workplace

The University of Bologna makes available e-learning training courses to all of its students in the context of promoting safety and health in places of study and research.

Students intending to carry out an internship outside the University, must possess the certification related both modules of the course on health and safety in the workplace (General training - Module 1 and specific training - Module 2).

Certificates obtained in previous work experience may be considered valid and could replace the attendance of the online courses. In order to verify its validity, the interested students must send their certificates to spp.formazione@unibo.it

Internship at internal structures of the University of Bologna

The internship can also be carried out at internal structures of the University of Bologna (Departments, Libraries, Museums, etc.). To start this type of internship, please consult the list of internal structures which could host interns and get in touch directly with the contact person indicated in the list. Then follow the steps described in the “Manuale tirocinante” (see attachment box).

During the internship

During the internship, you must keep in contact with your Supervisor who has the didactic responsibility and to whom you can refer to for support or advice on the modalities to carry out your activities.

What to do at the end of the internship

At the end of the internship, insert the end date of your internship on the Online Internship Platform and upload the first two pages of your attendance register. Please, note that the attendance register consists in 8 pages. Only the first two pages - regarding the intern's data and the attestation of the Hosting institution, duly completed and signed by the Hosting institution - need to be uploaded at the end of your internship. The pages regarding the attendance register can be used by the intern/hosting institution to register the working hours but it must not be uploaded on the Online Internship Platform.

Together with the attendance register, please include, in the same file, an email of declaration by your Supervisor regarding the outcome of your internship.

You will then receive an email asking you to fill in a survey for interns. The Hosting institution will also receive an email asking to fill in its evaluation form.

Verbalization of the internship

To verbalize the internship, please, refer to your University Tutor who will tell you if you need to register on AlmaEsami or if she/he will proceed in any other way (e.g. during reception hours).

Extension and Interruption of the internship

Extension of the internship

The internship must be completed within 12 months from the start of the activity. Extensions are not allowed except in cases of justified and documented suspension.

Interruption of the internship

It is possible to interrupt the internship for any reason.

If you wish to interrupt the internship, it is necessary to notify the Hosting institution, the University Tutor and the internship office (aform.tirocinilettere@unibo.it).

The interruption, which must contain all the personal data of the intern, the University Tutor and the start/end dates (expected and effective) of the internship, must be communicated strictly within the expected end date of the internship, by e-mail, to the internship office (aform.tirocinilettere@unibo.it), the Hosting institution and the University Tutor.

After the interruption of the internship, students will need to start an internship at another Hosting institution. The working hours previously carried out cannot be recognized.

Insurance cover

The University of Bologna guarantees insurance cover for students against accidents at work and third-party liability claims at insurance companies.

The insurance cover is guaranteed only during the approved period of the internship programme. In case of working hours carried out before the approved start date of the internship or after the approved end date without sending an extension request, those working hours will not be valid and cannot be part of the required amount of hours to obtain the credits foreseen in the didactic plan.
