The pathway offers training at Master's level based on the principle of double mobility (two semesters out of four) at one or two of the recognised partner universities, with the award of a double or multiple degree.
The agreement between the University of Bologna and Dalarna University (Högskolan Dalarna) offers students enrolled in the Master's degree courses in History and Oriental Studies and Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology the opportunity to devote the second year of their course to the study of the African continent. At the end of the course, by acquiring 60 credits, the student receives a 'double title': in addition to the Master's degree, a first-level Master's degree in African Studies.
The Master's programme is based at the Dalarna University Centre for African Studies (DUCAS), Falun, a centre for research and teaching on Africa that collaborates with 25 international partners in Europe and Africa. Thanks to the collaboration of lecturers from the partner universities, the Master in African Studies offers multidisciplinary teaching in a distinctly international context. The courses offered allow students to study the history, cultures, religions, politics and economics of the African continent, as well as issues related to gender, human rights and education in Africa. By the end of the course, students will have developed in-depth knowledge and critical analytical skills that will prepare them for careers in international organisations, NGOs, cultural associations, universities and research centres, etc. The course is taught in English.
