The documentary Soundtrack to a coup d'état by Johan Grimonprez will be screened on May 5, 2025 8 p.m. (see poster).
This documentary film - nominated for an Oscar - has as its main theme the dramatic independence of the Belgian Congo, and the assassination of its prime minister Lumumba in 1961, analyzed in a broader historical context that includes the Cold War, the independence of several Afro-Asian countries, their entry into the United Nations, the movement of non-aligned countries, American imperialism as well as the export of jazz music played by prominent African-American musicians as a strategy to spread American imperialism abroad.
