Trieste Next Academy is the intensive program that will allow selected students to participate in the 15th edition of Trieste Next – Scientific Research Festival 2026, which will take place in Trieste from September 25 to 27, 2026.

Trieste Next, promoted by the Municipality of Trieste, the University of Trieste, NEM Nord-Est Multimedia Group, Il NordEst, Il Piccolo, Area Science Park, OGS, and SISSA, will be held this year under the theme:“THE SHAPE OF THOUGHT – Interactions between Brains and Intelligences.”The Festival continues to provide a unique opportunity for dialogue with national and international leading scientists, researchers, and professionals.

The program will focus on several thematic areas, including:

  • Life Sciences, with a focus on biotechnology and its applications in diabetes prevention, advanced microscopy techniques, nanoscience, pharmaceutical formulation, and the evolving relationship between life sciences and artificial intelligence;
  • Robotics and AI, addressing the increasingly relevant debate on the impact and reliability of these systems, as well as their implications for robotics and their use in business and industry;
  • Ethics and Science, exploring the long-standing discussion surrounding innovation and its limits.

The Festival will also feature talks on the space economy, organized in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the European Space Agency (ESA), as well as discussions on the relationship between business and research, with a special focus on classical mechanics and quantum physics. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with all 36 research centers located within Trieste’s Area Science Park, one of the largest scientific research clusters in the world.

Throughout the Festival, Piazza Unità d’Italia will host the “Trieste City of Knowledge” Village, organized by the University of Trieste and major national and international research institutions, including ESA, Fondazione AIRC, Fondazione Telethon, ICGEB, INAF, INFN, OGS, ICTP, IRCCS, ANVOLT, ACGS, and the Civil Protection Department. The village will offer outreach activities, seminars, presentations, and open laboratories.

The Academy Project offers 300 accommodation scholarships reserved for undergraduate, graduate, master’s, doctoral, and ITS students. Selected participants will benefit from a high-level educational experience that includes:

  • Exclusive and priority access to all Festival events, with reserved seating and opportunities for direct interaction with speakers;
  • Full board and accommodation for the entire duration of the Festival;
  • Transfers to and from Festival venues and activities when necessary;
  • A €60 book voucher redeemable for books selected from a wide range of specialized and innovation-related titles;
  • An official certificate of participation, enhancing participants’ academic and professional CVs.
