The internship activity is an experience intended to complete your academic education with practical work at companies, public offices or structures within the University of Bologna.
The Degree programme includes:
- Internship for the preparation of the final examination (elective). It allows students to complete a scientific project at a research laboratory or at a company/institution and to gain 37 University educational credits (CFU). Otherwise, you can choose two different Internship for the preparation of the final examination (elective): one of 12 CFU and one of 25 CFU.
Since 1 CFU = minimum 25 hours/maximum 30 hours, the internship of 12 CFU requires minimum 300/maximum 260 hours of activity, internship of 25 CFU requires minimum 625/maximum 750 hours of activity and internship of 37 CFU requires minimum 925/maximum 1110 of activity.
You can apply for the internship starting from the second year of enrolment and after obtaining 42 CFU (excluding the 6 CFU of the English language B2 teaching activity); you can submit your application after selecting the activity in your study plan (please read the information on how to modify the study plan) and agreeing with your thesis supervisor on the contents.
Please follow the passages below to activate an internship:
The internship cannot be carried out in Host organisations whose legal representative, director or business associate has family ties with the student applicant.
Companies and institutions that concluded an agreement with the University publish their offers on SOL-Internships. You have the possibility to:
- apply to an existing offer
or
- consult the database of partnered companies/institutions in order to send a self-application.
If you need any help to prepare an effective CV, you can contact the Job Placement Service.
In both cases:
The internship cannot be carried out in Host organisations whose legal representative, director or business associate has family ties with the student applicant.
In accordance with your academic tutor, you must contact the tutor of the Host organisation (the tutor of the chosen University structure/lab), then send a self-application through SOL-Internships:
The internship cannot be carried out in Host organisations whose legal representative, director or business associate has family ties with the student applicant.
You can carry out your internship abroad following one of the two paths listed below:
You must fill in your attendance record book with the hours of attendance, according to the authorized period. You must communicate any variations (ex. suspension, cancellation, etc.) from the approved programme by sending an e-mail to the Internship office with the academic tutor and tutor of the Host organisation in copy c/c.
Should you need to travel to locations not included in the approved programme, you can ask for the extension of the insurance by contacting the academic tutor by e-mail (with the Internship office and tutor of the Host organisation in copy c/c) and wait for the authorization.
During the whole internship period, you are insured against on-work injuries and third-party liability. For further information please consult the Insurance Policy webpage.
The internship, like any other course in your study plan, must be recorded on AlmaEsami.
If you are heading to graduate, please note that the registration of the internship ECTS must be done by the deadline for meeting the requirements for the admission to the degree examination.
In order to have ECTS of the internship recorded by the deadline, you must upload to SOL-Internships the documents required for the completion of the internship at least 10 working days before the due date of fulfilling the requirements.
In any case, after completing the required internship hours, you have to log in to SOL-Internships, enter the date of your last day of attendance at the Host organisation, corresponding to the end date reported on the attendance record book on page 2, and upload the following documents:
Then, you must fill out the internship questionnaire.
If you have carried out more than one internship, you must upload the required documentation for each internship you have done.
After uploading the documentation and completing the questionnaire:
1) the internship office checks the attendance record book
2) the academic tutor evaluates the pdf with the evaluation of the academic tutor/thesis supervisor and the evaluation of the tutor of the Host organisation
3) the Internship Board records the expected ECTS of the internship on AlmaEsami
