The internship activity is an experience planned to complete your academic education with practical work at companies, public offices or labs within the University of Bologna.
The Degree Programme includes two internships, both elective:
- internship. It allows students to gain 6 credits (CFU) and it may be linked to the internship for the final examination or could be another training experiences to be carried out under the framework of another project
- Internship for preparation for the final examination. It allows students to gain 21 credits (CFU). You can submit your application after choosing the thesis supervisor/academic tutor and the thesis subject, whether the internship takes place within the University of Bologna or outside, in Italy or abroad (to find Internship opportunities, check the document in the box Highlights and contact professors for information).
Since 1 CFU = minimum 25 hours/maximum 30 hours, the curricular internship of 6 CFU requires minimum 150/maximum 180 hours of activity, while internship for preparation for the final examination of 21 CFU requires minimum 525/maximum 630 hours of activity.
You can apply for the both internships starting from the second semester of the second Course year (at the end of classes of the first semester), after selecting them in your study plan (please read the information on how to modify the study plan) and only if you have already registered 60 CFU.
Please follow the passages below to activate an internship:

You can carry out your internship abroad following one of the two paths listed below:
You must fill in your attendance record book with the hours of attendance, according to the authorized period. You must communicate any variations (ex. suspension, cancellation, etc.) from the approved programme by sending an e-mail to the Internship office with the academic tutor and tutor of the Host organisation in copy c/c.
Should you need to travel to locations not included in the approved programme, you can ask for the extension of the insurance by contacting the academic tutor by e-mail (with the Internship office and tutor of the Host organisation in copy c/c) and wait for the authorization.
During the whole internship period, you are insured against on-work injuries and third-party liability. For further information please consult the Insurance Policy webpage.
After completing the internship working hours, please upload in SOL-Internships:
- pages 1 and 2 of the attendance record book, duly filled in and signed by the tutor of the Host organisation
- evaluation of the tutor of the Host organisation in the allocation normally assigned to the report (you can download samples from the “Highlights” box)
Fill out the mandatory questionnaire.
Afterwards, you must wait for the Internship board to register the internship activity in Almaesami. This procedure does not require the presence of the student, is conducted as any other teaching activity and observes the deadline for the graduation application.
