Application procedure A.Y. 2021/2022

To be admitted to the degree programme, students must apply online through the Studenti Online platform by uploading the following mandatory documents:

  • Valid identity card/Passport
  • Degree Certificate (please note that students can be admitted sub conditione provided that they graduate by 16 December 2021)
  • Transcript of Records
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • English language proficiency certificate (read how to demonstrate your English level below).

Please note: only complete applications will be assessed by the Admission Board. The Board meets on a regular basis.

IMPORTANT: If you are a non-EU citizen living outside Italy, you must apply for an entry visa for study purposes at the Italian Embassy in your country and pre-enrol online via the Universitaly portal.

NOTE: pre-enrolment procedure at the Italian Embassy does not grant enrolment to the programme. Your official enrolment will be subject to verification of the authenticity, the accreditation, the level and the academic rights of the qualifications by the Student Administration Office of the University of Bologna, once the original documents have been received.

Admission requirements

Admission to the Programme is subject to the possession of:

  1. English language proficiency at level B2
  2. a First Cycle Degree obtained in Italy or abroad and recognized to be equivalent, in one of the following classes:
  • ex D.M. 270: Lauree della Classe L-30 - Scienze e Tecnologie Fisiche;
  • D.M. 509/99: Laurea Triennale della classe XXV - Scienze e Tecnologie Fisiche;
  • Previous Italian four-year degree programme system: Laurea in Fisica, Laurea in Astronomia

To profitably attend the Programme, students must possess fundamental skills in mathematics and a good understanding of the phenomenology and models of classical and modern physics, including fundamentals of micro-physics applied to particle physics and condensed matter. 

Moreover, they should have been introduced to laboratory experiences which include the use of basic instruments and elaboration of measurement data also by means of computer-assisted techniques. 

Assessment of personal preparation

Along with the above-mentioned curricular requirements, admission to the Master's Degree programme is in any case subject to the assessment of personal preparation.

The procedure is carried out by a specific Examination Board through the evaluation of candidates’ uploaded documents.

The Admission Board may decide to carry out additional interviews, on an individual basis, by contacting candidates directly.

Assessment of English language requirements

The English language proficiency at CEFR B2 level is required for the admission to the degree programme.

Candidates meet the requirements by providing one of the following certifications:

  1. an international certificate at B2 level among the ones listed in the document published on this page (file name: Tabella certificazioni equipollenti prova idoneità linguistica);
  2. a first/second cycle degree title in programmes entirely taught in English: the Transcript of records or other documents issued by the University must contain the formal indication that the language of instruction is English;
  3. Transcript of records demonstrating a CEFR English B2 exam passed during the first/second cycle programme: valid only if the level of proficiency is clearly stated in the course title (ex: English B2/ Idoneità linguistica di lingua inglese B2, etc.). If the level is not clearly indicated in the course title, a declaration of the level issued by the Professor in charge of the completed course is required;
  4. status of English native speakers.
  5. Transcript of records demonstrating at least 1 year of a degree programme entirely taught in English: the Transcript of records or other documents issued by the University must contain the formal indication that the language of instruction is English;
  6. CEFR English B2 certification provided by any Italian University Language Center (CLA) or any other recognized certifying body (valid only if the certificate states the exact name of the body/school/institute issuing the certificate, level obtained and exam date)

NOTE: For the a.y. 2021/2022, further substantial non-curricular learning activities and/or international working/studying experiences are accepted to prove the language proficiency at B2 level, but ONLY if properly documented

The Board may decide whether they are sufficient to demonstrate the B2 proficiency. If they are not considered valid nor sufficiently detailed, candidates will be asked by the Board to attend an interview.

    NOTE: in this case, candidates are requested to upload a declaration stating their intention to attend the interview or take the test in the section dedicated to language proficiency assessment on StudentiOnline.

    English B2 Test: dates and modalities

    The next available date for the English Evaluation Test is:

    November 5, 2021, 12 noon (registration by November 2).

    The test will be delivered online through video conferencing software. To participate to the test it is required to have UNIBO credentials. We thus strongly suggest you to start the enrolment procedure to our Master's Degree in Physics by applying on the Studenti online platform, in order to get them.

    Contents of the test: grammar and vocabulary skills will be tested through a multiple choice written test (50 questions); oral skills will be assessed through a discussion on scientific topics.

    Tuition Fee Amounts

    Tuition fees are calculated based on the 2021 ISEE value with special subsidies in relation to the right to higher education. First year students with an ISEE of up to €23,000 benefit from full exemption. Above this limit, tuition fees are calculated progressively.

    The ISEE value must be submitted, even if you have not enrolled in the Degree Programme, by 2 November 2021, at 18:00 (or by 15 November 2021, at 18:00, paying a €100 penalty) accessing ER-GO Online Services, alternatively you will have to pay the full amount.

    After you have checked that all the admission requirements have been met, you can enrol on  Studenti Online:

    1. fill in the application for matriculation with the required information and attach a passport photo in digital format;
    2. pay the first instalment of your tuition fees;
    3. follow the instructions to complete the procedure which you will find on Studenti Online according to your profile.
