The master's degree graduate:
- knows the national, international and European institutional and political system, its historical, social, economic and legal origins, its modes of operation and its place in relation to other types of system; the mechanisms of operation of complex organisations and the decision-making processes contained therein; global governance perspectives;
- knows the political and organisational context in which decisions are taken and the various phases of a project in the field of public policy;
- possesses interdisciplinary knowledge and in the management of both human and economic-financial resources with regard to their definition, analysis and control, also using quantitative methods;
- is able to design and implement a research design through the interweaving of methods and techniques best suited to the type of phenomenon to be investigated, the cognitive objectives to be achieved and the available resources;
- possesses legal and financial knowledge appropriate to deal with legal and financial experts, including in English.
The knowledge and comprehension skills listed above are attained through active participation in lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars conducted in class under the supervision of the lecturers and personal study (guided according to the bibliography indicated and autonomous) within the framework of the training activities activated. Verification of the achievement of the learning outcomes takes place mainly through the final examination of each training activity, which may take place in written and/or oral form, or also through the preparation of individual and/or group papers and the oral presentation of the same. Intermediate tests and discussion with experts in class may be envisaged.
The Master's degree graduate:
- is able to advise, dialogue and exchange with the highest political and administrative levels of complex public and private organisations, or of organisations that have frequent contacts with them;
- can assess the impact of changes in the global social, political and economic scenario, also in the light of technological progress, and can devise innovative tools for enhancing human capital;
- can design and manage organisational and technological innovation programmes capable of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of administrative offices and sectors;
- possesses interpersonal skills, necessary for the performance of his or her work, coupled with excellent communication, staff motivation and incentive skills, as well as the ability to relate in a complex context.
The ability to apply knowledge and understanding is achieved through critical reflection on the texts proposed for individual study, the study of case studies proposed by the lecturers, simulations, bibliographic and field research, and the realisation of individual and/or group projects solicited in particular during attendance of the workshops and exercises carried out in class under the supervision of the course lecturers. In addition to the final examination envisaged for each course, the assessment of the ability to apply knowledge and understanding may include the independent writing of a paper, role-plays and simulations aimed at stimulating both problem-solving skills and the mastery of tools, methodologies and critical autonomy.
The Master's degree graduate:
- is able to develop original proposals for the innovation of organisational solutions, administrative processes and policy solutions deduced from different national and/or international contexts, assessing their implications of a different order (political, economic, ethical) for the target environment;
- possesses high methodological skills for the development of empirical indicators of organisational efficiency and effectiveness, through which to design and implement evaluation processes of public administrations and organisations, in particular by means of programmes aimed at detecting 'customer satisfaction'.
Autonomy of judgement is developed in particular through exercises, seminar-type lectures, preparation of even complex papers, especially in the area of organisational structures and decision-making processes, in which emphasis is placed on the student's capacity for critical analysis and problem solving, as well as during internship and apprenticeship activities and preparation of the final exam.
The acquisition of autonomy of judgement is assessed through the evaluation of the lessons in the student's individual study plan, the evaluation of the ability to interpret and rework empirical data, describe and analyse case studies, actively participate in lectures, the evaluation of the degree of autonomy of the student in developing the in-depth themes assigned both in the context of the individual training activities and during the preparation of the final exam.
The Master's degree graduate:
- possesses high interpersonal skills that enable him/her to master arguments at different levels of complexity, so as to adapt communication styles and contents to different types of interlocutors and/or audiences
- possesses competences to design and implement, also by means of information and communication technologies, targeted public communication initiatives in view of the target audience, the means used and the issues involved;
- possesses an advanced knowledge of the English language as an indispensable tool to ensure full access to sources of professional updating and to conduct managerial activities on international markets, as well as to participate actively in international networks of organisational and institutional actors.
Oral and written communication skills are acquired and tested during training activities and exercises involving case studies and/or preparation of reports and written documents, oral presentation and class discussion of the same. The acquisition of the communication skills listed above is also expected through the drafting of the final paper and its discussion, during the internship placement and the final report.
The Master's degree graduate:
- develops high analytical and theoretical skills in an interdisciplinary course of study. This training makes him open to acquiring analytical tools and methods from a plurality of fields of knowledge, ensuring not only up-to-date but also original approaches to problem solutions;
- is able to autonomously identify the tools and sources to deepen, broaden and constantly update his skills on general and specific topics. Advanced knowledge of the English language allows him full access to the most advanced contributions in the international scientific literature.
Learning skills are achieved in the course of study as a whole, with particular regard to the planned individual study, the preparation of individual and group projects, and the activity carried out for the preparation of the final examination.
The learning ability is assessed through forms of continuous verification during the training activities, by requiring the presentation of self-reported data, the elaboration of individual studies on topics assigned in the classroom, through tutoring in the development of projects and through the evaluation of the self-learning ability gained during the activity related to the final examination.
