The degree programme offered is the natural adjustment to the reform of the previous 2nd cycle degree 95/S, History, Conservation and Protection of Works of Art, put into effect in the previous two academic years 2005/2006 and 2006/2007. A 2nd cycle degree, concerning expressly the historical-artistic events of restoration and preservation of the works of art which answer the job market requirements and increasingly more oriented towards the interdisciplinary cooperation of art historians/curators, scientists and restorers in order to guarantee correct intervention methodology for the protection and preservation of cultural heritage, was necessary at the University of Bologna, and more specifically at the Faculty of Preservation of Cultural Heritage due to its specific curricula and didactics. This need is also connected with the ministerial provisions for the management of restoration sites governed by the ministerial decree nr. 294 of August 3 2000 and subsequent modification by the ministerial decree nr. 420.
