Admission to academic year 2019-20

General information on admission requirements and deadlines for the new edition of the Master (academic year 2019-20). Classes will start in September 2019.

To attend the Master’s Degree in Statistical Sciences it is necessary to have adequate knowledge of mathematics, statistics and probability tools at undergraduate level. Since the course is entirely taught in English admission is subjected also to the assessment of the proficiency in English Language.

Admission requirements

- If you have a foreign qualification, read the specific information before continuing.

- If you are a non-EU citizen resident abroad, read the specific information before continuing.


To be admitted to the selection process, it is necessary to:

1. have at least a First-Cycle Degree (Bachelor’s) in Statistics or a different degree from an Italian or foreign university with an adequate number of credits in the area of statistics and mathematics. One of the following curricular requirements must be met:

a) A first cycle degree in one of the following classes:

  • ex Italian Ministerial Decree no. 270: L-41 - Statistics
  • ex. Italian Ministerial Decree no. 509/99: class 37 - Statistical Sciences
  • Previous four-year degree program system: Degree in Statistics, Demographic and Social Sciences; Degree in Statistics and Economic Sciences; Degree in Statistical and Actuarial Sciences
  • Three-year university degree:  Statistics equivalent to the classes L 41/37
  • Or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad

b) Or, alternatively, the possession of a first cycle degree in a different class having acquired credits (ECTS) in the following subject areas:

    (Italian scientific sectors: SECS-S/01, SECS-S/02, SECS-S/03, SECS-S/04, SECS-S/05, SECS-P/05, MAT/06)
  • MATHEMATICS (at least 10 ECTS)
    (Italian scientific sectors: SECS-S/06, MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/07, MAT/08, MAT/09)

 Students who have not completed their first level degree (Bachelor's) may participate in the selection process, but they must graduate within December 19  2019.

2. candidates' personal competencies and skills are assessed by a Board, based on university-level knowledge of mathematics, probability and statistics in the following manner:

  • The personal competencies and skills requirement is deemed to be met by graduates in Statistics with a final degree score of at least 95/110 or an equivalent score obtained abroad.

  • In all the other cases, the required knowledge and competencies are assessed through the examination of the candidates' curriculum and an eventual interview. Dates for the eventual interview are listed in the table below and are also possible to conduct via Skype. 

3. have an English language knowledge certification. Candidates must possess a minimum B2 level or equivalent in order to be admitted to the selection procedure. The English language requirement is fulfilled in the following cases:

  • Certification by the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (CLA) of Unibo (or from the Linguistic Center of your University)

  • English Language certification among the following: TOEFL, ISE, IELTS, CAMBRIDGE EXAM SUITE -  A table of correspondence is available at this page

  • First cycle degree (bachelor’s) taught in English

  • B2 level English exam in their Bachelor’s study plan

  • The applicant is an English native speakers (to be indicated in the CV)


How to apply

Application is available at STUDENTIONLINE. No paper applications are accepted. The procedure for the application is decribed in the CALL FOR APPLICATION 2019/20. Please read it carefully!

Find in the "Attachments" section aside, the formats for

  • your Curriculum Vitae  (Form A)
  • your Statement of purpose (Form B)
  • your Declaration about English knowledge (Form C)

After you have checked that all the admission requirements have been met, you can enrol on Studenti online:

  1. complete the application for matriculation with the required data and attach an ID photograph in digital format;
  2. pay the first instalment of tuition fees.

Next, go to the Student Administration Office with a valid ID to activate your student career and get access to University services (such as Almawifi, online study plans, exam registration, libraries). Upon activation, you will receive an e-mail with a QR CODE that you will have to use to print your badge at one of the self-service machines at the University.

If you have a previous university qualification or have completed university course units, you can apply for a shortened degree programme.

If you are a student with disabilities (with a minimum recognised degree of disability of 66%, or if you own have certification issued pursuant to Law 104/92), you are entitled to obtain exemption from tuition fees.

If you have a foreign citizenship and/or qualification, you must also hand in the following documents to the  Student Administration Office:

If you are matriculating by submitting only the entry visa for study purposes, also ask the Student Administration Office for an enrolment certificate that you must attach to your residence permit application.

 Always check in the specific pages when the declaration of value, the translation or the legalization are not required!
