On Thursday 13 at 11 a.m., in the Aula Magna of Santa Cristina, as part of Prof. Francesco Spampinato's lecture on Theory of Contemporary Art since the 1950s, there will be a meeting with Jean-Marie Gallais, curator of the Pinault Collection and responsible for the recent retrospective exhibitions of Mike Kelley at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris and Thomas Schütte currently on display at Punta della Dogana in Venice.
Jean-Marie Gallais will talk about his career and his curatorial work for one of the most important and proactive institutions in the field of contemporary art exhibitions. The invitation is extended in particular to the entire student community of the second cycle degree program in Visual Arts. The meeting will be held in English.
Jean-Marie Gallais is an art historian, writer and curator based in Paris with a focus on international contemporary art. Curator at Pinault Collection since 2022, he curated the Mike Kelley retrospective “Ghost and Spirit” at Bourse de Commerce in 2023, and the Pinault collection display entitled “Le monde comme il va / The World as it goes” in 2024, and projects with Ali Cherri and Victor Man. He is one of the curators of the Thomas Schütte exhibition at Punta della Dogana in Venice (currently on view), and is currently working on Palazzo Grassi projects for 2026. Before joining Pinault Collection, Jean-Marie Gallais was Guest Curator at Fondation Carmignac and Chief Curator of Centre Pompidou-Metz, where he curated several exhibitions such as "Peindre la nuit / Night Painting" (2017/2018), "Folklore" (2020), a Lee Ufan retrospective in 2019, “Habiter le temps / Inhabiting Time.” and "Ecrire, c'est dessiner / Writing is Drawing", the last exhibition curated with Etel Adnan in 2021. He contributes regularly to international publications and symposiums.
