Specific requirements: The course is offered only for incoming exchange students at the Department of Psychology. A very good command of English or a very good command of Italian.
Learning objectives.
At the end of the course, the student should show:
- advanced knowledge on a specific topic of applied statistic evaluated orally and in writing scientific reports;
- critical skills on statistical methods applied in psychological research in specific topic of interest.
Content of the course.
The course concern statistical methods used in psychological research.
The students will participate in a part of a research project concerning one of the following topics:
- the methods and parameters used in eye movements recordings analysis;
- the problem concerning the statistical evaluation of non parametric measures in reading tests;
- the application of advanced statistical models to psychological research;
- the methods and parameters used in vision perception experiments;
- the analysis of clustering technique applied in the evaluation of the effectiveness of psychiatric treatments.
Teaching methods.
The course consist of participation in experiment sessions and discussions, as well as independent work on specific literature which will be discussed orally and in a final writing report.
Literature Scientific articles will be presented during the course, as a basic tool it is suggested to refer to the book "Discovering Statistics using IBM SPSS Statistics by Andy Field Sage Pubblication LTD 2013" .
