Students who obtain an IMAT score below the following thresholds will be assigned an Additional Learning Requirement (ALR):
- 20 points for non-EU candidates residing abroad;
- 25 points for EU and equivalent-status candidates.
The assigned Additional Learning Requirement (ALR) will be deemed fulfilled upon completion of a remedial course in physics, chemistry and introductory biochemistry, and biology (approximately eight hours in total). Attendance is compulsory, and the course must be completed remotely and asynchronously. Students must also pass the relevant assessment, which will verify that they have acquired the required knowledge in the subjects listed above, by 31 March of the year following the end of their first year of study.
The course is available on the Virtuale platform and comprises three sections containing teaching materials and content sourced from the JoVE platform. Self-assessment tests will be made available for each section to help students prepare for the ALR assessment.
The assessment consists of 10 multiple-choice questions for each section (Physics, Chemistry and Introductory Biochemistry, and Biology), to be completed within a maximum of one hour. If any students are assigned an ALR, the test dates will be published on the degree programme website. The questions will cover the topics addressed during the course.
One point will be awarded for each correct answer, while no points will be awarded for an incorrect or unanswered question. To fulfil the ALR, students must achieve an overall score of at least 18 out of 30 and a score of at least 6 out of 10 in each section.
The ALR will also be deemed fulfilled if, by 31 March of the year following the end of the first year of study, the student has successfully completed all the learning activities included in the first year of the programme, excluding any elective activities chosen independently by the student. Failure to fulfil the Additional Learning Requirements will result in the student being required to re-enrol in the first year of the programme.

After completing the self-assessment test, students may consult their tutor for support with any difficulties encountered or for further advice on preparing for the final assessment.
