The Degree Programme in Computer Science and Information Technology provides the theoretical and practical skills related to the main areas of computer science. Specific learning outcomes are the learning of techniques of programming and planning of computer systems, knowledge of the main hardware and software technologies and network systems. In addition, students acquire in-depth specialist and professional knowledge in specific areas of computer science that can permit direct access to employment . The achievement of these learning outcomes requires a foundation in the general knowledge of science, as well as a method of scientific analysis and study that enables students, first as undergraduates and later as graduates, to add to their knowledge and skills independently in order to keep continually abreast of advances in the subject in order to use innovative methodologies and complex equipment.
Graduates possess:
- a wide range of knowledge and skills related to the various areas of computer science, with the aim of using them in the planning, development and management of computer networks and systems, independent to the specific applicative area;
- adequate mastery of the mathematical tools necessary for formal modelling, analysis and evaluation, optimisation and creation of systems;
- the ability to keep up to date, using specialist texts, regarding the latest developments in their field of study;
- the ability to think up and defend arguments both when working in a team and alone;
- the ability to gather and interpret experimental data in order to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of complex computer systems;
- the ability to use at least one other European Union language, in addition to Italian, both orally and in writing for the exchange of general information and their specific subject area;
- the ability to carry out bibliographical research also using database and computer networks;
- the necessary skills to continue further studies in a highly independent way.
To provide graduates with the abilities listed above, the Degree Programme in Computer Science and Computer Technologies:
- includes activities that focus on the development of basic skills in algebra and differential and integral calculus, as well as fundamental knowledge in the main areas of computer science (including programming languages, algorithms, operating systems, databases and computer systems, image processing);
- provides for project and laboratory work aimed at providing skills in the methods of programming;
- includes activities for learning English.
