What is EPOS?

EPOS stands for Economics, Politics and Social Sciences. It is an international undergraduate degree course, entirely taught in English and open to Italian and international applicants. It lasts 3 years and leads to the title of Bachelor's (1st-cycle degree).

Will I obtain a degree in Economics or Political Science?

After enrolling in EPOS, the student can choose to obtain a Bachelor degree in Economics (L-33 according to the Italian categories) or a degree in Political Science and International Relations (L-36). EPOS is a "laurea interclasse" and not a double degree programme, hence you cannot obtain both degrees.

How many places are available?

EPOS is a restricted-access programme and you need to be selected before enrolling. There are 90 place for EU and EU-assimilated citizens and 30 for non-EU citizens. Check what group you belong to here.

Suggestions:

  • Apply early to get early feedback about admission
  • If you are extra-UE, apply early to have time to get your VISA
  • If not admitted, you can re-apply to the following intake
  •

Am I eligible to apply?

Yes if you have an Italian Diploma di Maturità. Have you got a non-Italian secondary school certificate? If so, check if it complies with these requirements to understand if you are eligible to apply.

Am I an EU, EU-assimilated or not EU candidate?
To find out exactly what that means, check out your status here.

How does the selection work?

The selection is based on tests about your logical, mathematical, and linguistics skills. You can choose between the following tests:

    SAT - General test score

    English TOLC-E score

  • If you have chosen the English TOLC-E test and you have taken it multiple times since 1st Feb 2021, EPOS will consider for admission only the most recent score.
  • If you have chosen the SAT test and you have taken it multiple times since 1st Feb 2021, EPOS will consider for admission only the most recent score.

Attention: Sat has gone Digital! You now can take the Digital Sat also in Bologna: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/digital

It is essential that you comply with all of the following points:

A.

When you register on our Portal (Studenti Online), in the “private email”  field you must provide the same personal email address that you used at the moment of registration on the College Board website.
B.

You must ask College Board to forward your SAT scores to the University of Bologna, using code 6993, as soon as you can. You can do this directly from the College Board website

C.

In any case, we will consider only scores arrived to Unibo no later than the following dates:

For the I intake: April 6 th , 2023 - 1.00pm CET
For the II intake: May 30th , 2023 - 1.00pm CET
For the III intake: June 26th , 2023 - 1.00pm CET

It is important, therefore, to check with College Board the SAT score delivery timing.

A good score on either test will be sufficient for EPOS to certify your linguistic skills. No other linguistic test will be required for admission. Keep in mind that an English language knowledge of a minimum level B2  (CEFRL) is necessary to effectively complete the EPOS programme.

Do I need to speak Italian to apply to EPOS?

English is the working language of EPOS for classes, exams, and communications but some basic Italian will facilitate your everyday life in Bologna. You can be admitted to EPOS even if you do not possess Italian language skills at the moment of admission.

Specific Italian language learning activities will be offered for international students. If you have already taken Italian classes before or have an Italian language certificate you can ask to be exempted from this activity. By the end of your study, though, you are required to know Italian at least at the B1 level. For any information, please contact the Programme Coordinator or the University Language Center – CLA. Click here for more information.

Application

To apply, go to www.studenti.unibo.it register (if you are not registered yet), choose "Entrance exams or requirements check" and then follow the instructions to apply for EPOS selection. You will need to select one of the application methods listed in the table above, based on your "status" (NON-European or European/European assimilated candidates). You will be asked to pay a non-refundable selection fee of €20,00. Applications will be open in the periods indicated in the "Call for application" .

What are the language requirements?

Having a minimum level B2 of English (according to the CEFR scale) is essential to smoothly attend classes and profitably sit exams. However, you will not have to show a language certificate in order to enroll in EPOS. As both SAT and English Tolc-E tests will be in English, your good performance on the tests is taken as indication of a sufficient language competence.

Enrollment

There is no minimum pre-set threshold to achieve in the SAT/TOLC tests in order to be admitted. To enroll you must be in a sufficiently good position in the final ranking within the intake. You will be able to enrol on www.studenti.unibo.it, by selecting "Registration" and following the instructions. The enrolment must be completed within the deadline indicated in the "Call for application" attached in the upper right corner, including the payment of the first installment. See the paragraph below named "Matriculation" for further information.

Additional Learning Requirements (OFA)

Those students who score poorly in the Math section of the TOLC or the SAT will still be able to enroll in EPOS for the first year.

However, they need to pass the exam "Mathematics for Social Sciences" by 31 March 2025, otherwise they will not be able to enrol in the second year.

The minimum scores in the Math section of the tests are the following:

* 4,5/13 points in the Math section of the TOLC-E test
* 500/800 in the Math section of the SAT test
Please read the information related to the OFA (Additional Learning Requirements).
