Leaving as a "free mover"

What does “free mover” mean?

It means moving on your own to other Universities and institutions across the world in order to carry out study or research, independently from being enrolled at Unibo. Sometimes host Universities assign the status of "visiting student" to people engaging in this kind of experience.

It is important to notice that this experience is entirely free and carried out autonomously. If you decide to pursue it, you will not obtain the status of 'exchange student' even if you go to a University sharing a mobility or exchange agreement of any kind with Unibo.

You should ask the University or institution you are interested in by yourself if you want to know whether they provide for this kind of possibility and at what conditions.

Given the nature of this experience, there are no prior authorization procedures either by Unibo offices or by the Degree Programme Board.

As it is carried out autonomously during your current studies, there is no automatic recognition of this activity or experience in your current university career. Any activities carried out outside the agreements with university institutions in Italy and abroad, outside the calls for student mobility promoted and activated by the university, and not previously approved in a specific learning agreement, are not considered as institutional activities within the student's career. However, it is possible to submit a request for recognition of credits acquired to the Degree Programme Board in accordance with the regulations in force.

Similarly, Unibo does not provide nomination letters or any funding to free movers.
