The three-year programme is organised to provide students with basic biomedical training in the first year in course units on anatomy, physiology, biology, genetics, physics, phylogenesis and applied nursing methodology, the latter being core courses that will continue in the following years. The first year of the programme is completed by providing students with the pedagogic and general psychological bases required to work in the profession. During the second year of study, students will tackle the main medical and surgical disciplines, covering acute and chronic diseases, in hospitals and in the local community, accompanied by the related nursing disciplines. The course units offered include general and special surgery and medical courses covering the most common pathologies in cardiovascular, respiratory, oncological and internal medicine, with particular reference to the geriatric, maternal and infant fields. At the same time, students acquire basic notions of legal and occupational health and radioprotection. The training is completed with course units in law and health organisation. During the third year, the theoretical training is completed in critical and psychiatric fields, also introducing the students to the field of biomedical research in the nursing field. During the three years, in addition to the lectures the students will take vocational laboratories and undertake internships in clinical and surgical wards in hospitals as well as in the local community.By the end of the programme, Nursing graduates shall have acquired knowledge and technical, relational and educational skills to work professionally in public and private healthcare facilities.Through the specific outcomes and the use of active learning methods, the following skills are developed:- the ability for critical thought and decision making consistent with the responsibility of general nursing care recognised by the profile (DM 739/94)- the development of relational and organisational competences in the field of intra- and inter-professional team work with specific orientation to multidisciplinary discussion and synergies and the various organisational models applied to the health field- relational and educational competences towards individuals and their families- the ability for self-learning through lifelong projects, developing a cultural attitude based on the lifelong learning approach, starting from a solid educational basis.Throughout the programme, students are expected to develop sensitivity and an attitude based on the principles and values expressed in the Nursing Code of Conduct.In this way, graduates are expected to have developed the bases for post-graduate and specialist studies.
