Rules of conduct and procedures for the Graduation Day

Convocation and discussion

The discussion of the final thesis and the degree conferral take place in person. Graduation convocations will be available on Studenti Online. Through this platform, students will be informed of the time, location, and members of the Graduation Committee, generally no later than 5 days before the scheduled session.

The thesis work is publicly discussed during the dedicated graduation session in front of the Graduation Committee that will assess the student's work. The presentation must be carried out in English and students may use slides to illustrate their work. Additionally, the Committee may ask in-depth questions concerning the methodology, results, and potential developments of the work.

The presentation time is as follows:

- Standard thesis: 15 minutes (including questions)

- Major Master’s Thesis: 20 minutes (including questions)

For more information regarding Major Master’s Thesis, please consult the dedicated section.

Students who have carried out their internship in laboratories of the University of Bologna or external laboratories, are advised to check whether official presentation slide templates are available. If no specific guidelines or templates are provided, students are free to choose their own slides layout, provided that it remains formal.

Rules of conduct

Graduating students may invite guests, up to a maximum number, typically 10, determined by the room's capacity and according to the indications of the session's President. It will always be possible to attend the graduation examinations online, with no limit on the number of participants.

Graduating students and guests must comply with the following behavioural rules during graduation sessions:

- Arrive punctually respecting the convocation time and well in advance with respect to the scheduled graduation session start time, as additional time is needed to set up the presentation and to seat guests properly;

- Wait for their turn without disturbing other ongoing academic activity;

- Guests must remain seated at all times during the session and are not allowed to stand;

- Leave the indoor areas promptly after the proclamation;

- Celebrate only outside the premises, avoiding any excesses and maintaining a sober and appropriate behaviour.

It is strictly forbidden to litter the premises, both indoors and outdoors, with food and drink. In the event of disturbances, the President of the Graduation Committee is authorized to suspend the session.
