BRAZIL
(USA/1985) di Terry Gilliam (131')
Tuesday 27th May 2025 - 9.30 p.m.
Introduced by Professor Maura Savini
The film will be in the original language with subtitles in Italian
In a time that "is neither future nor past, yet a bit of both, on the border between Los Angeles and Belfast, whatever that means", Sam Lawry is a modest employee looking for the woman who appeared to him in a dream and with whom he immediately fell in love. Chasing her, he will experience the grip of a highly bureaucratized and mechanized state system, where rules and protocols feed on themselves, controlling every aspect of life, almost to the point of suffocating it. Thus, in this world dominated by the ruthless cynicism of the powerful, even repairing the control pipes hidden behind every wall of one's home constitutes an act of revolt, the refusal to give in to an inhuman system and the first gesture of undermining the present-future outlined by Gilliam, from which Sam Lawry wants to escape.
