The curricular internship is a training experience, included in the study plan of the degree programme, aimed at completing academic education through practical experiences.
Carrying out a curricular internship means spending a period of time working at a company or institution (in Italy or abroad) and earning university credits at the end of the activity. Taking up an intenship is not mandatory, but is an opportunity for you to learn, grow, and contribute in a professional setting.
Internships are carried out on the basis of an agreement between the University of Bologna and the host structure (company, public body, professional firm etc.) and an internship programme signed by both parties.
In this Programme, internships are elective activities.
If you wish to do an Internship, you can choose a 100 hours internship (4 ECTS) or a 150 hours internship (6 ECTS). You can also choose to do a 250 hours internship (6 ECTS + 4 ECTS), by adding both activities to your study plan. In this case, you will still need to set up two internship procedures.
Please note: even if the Internship 1 and Internship 2 are indicated in "Period 1" you can carry them out in a different period.
For more information on how and when to add the internships in your study plan, please refer to the page Preparing the study plan.
You can also add to your study plan one of the following internships:
Carrying out an internship for the preparation of the final examination, in Italy or abroad, allows you to gain 12 of the 18 credits associated with your dissertation. The aim of such internship has to be consistent with the dissertation topic and agreed with the supervisor.
In this case, once agreed the topic of your dissertation with your supervisor, you can ask the Internship office to add the internship to you career (you can send your request anytime, despite the 2 periods scheduled to change your study plan) sending to the internship office the form you find attached.
You can carry out your curricular internship starting from the end of the second semester of the first year (during summer) and during the second year.

The course provides the possibility of doing one or both of the planned internships. If both are done, the credits of the 150-hour internship (6 credits) will be calculated as extra credits, therefore not useful for obtaining the qualification.
Internship I - within Unibo: (150 hours – 6 CFU): two types of internship are possible in this case: (i) in laboratories, research centres and admin offices of Unibo, carrying out tasks supporting their activities; (ii) acting as a Research Assistant of a faculty member of the course (or of another member of the Department of Economics of the University of Bologna). In this case the internship is called RAship and can be done after a self-arranged agreement with a member of the Department of Economics. This opportunity is strongly suggested to students considering to apply for a PhD. In order to set up a RAship, please follow the specific online procedure outlined further below in this page.
Internship II - outside Unibo (300 hours – 12 CFU): internship at private companies, public institutions, professional firms etc, either in Italy or abroad. This opportunity is strongly suggested to those students who want to enter the job market as business and financial consultant and analyst or as data analyst.
You can also choose to add to your career an internship aimed at writing your dissertation:
Carrying out an internship for the preparation of the dissertation/final examination, in Italy or abroad, allows you to get 12 of the 15 credits associated with your dissertation. NOTE: The tasks perfomed within such internship have to be consistent with the dissertation topic and agreed with the supervisor.
Once you agree with your supervisor on a dissertation topic, you have to ask the Internship Office to add the relevant internship to you career; it is possible to send your request anytime of the year, regardless of the study plan opening periods; just email the Internship Office including the form attached.
You can carry out your internship from the end of the second semester of the first year (during the Summer) onwards, up to your second year, and anyway, after having selected the relevant option in your study plan (please read the information on how to fill in and edit the study plan).
