Internship

Internships are learning activities that allow students to obtain credits contemplated in the course structure diagram of their degree programme, which also allow to acquire practical skills and add experience to their University education. Internships are carried out on the basis of an agreement between the University of Bologna and the Hosting Structure (company, public body, professional firm etc.) and an internship programme signed by the parties concerned.

When you can submit your internship request 

You can submit your request for the internship starting from your second year and select the internship in your Study Plan.

How to find the right internship opportunity for you

Hosting institutions having already signed an internship agreement with the University of Bologna publish their internship vacancies on the Online Internship on the platform SOL-Tirocini - Internships: 

  • the available internship offers, and apply for them.  

or 

  • the list of all hosting institutions having already signed an internship agreement with the University of Bologna. You can contact those you are interested in and verify their availability to host you as an intern. In case they are available to host you, send your application.

In both cases, once the hosting institution has accepted your application, connect to SOL-Tirocini - Internships: 

  1. follow the guidelines you will receive at your Unibo email;
  2. download the attendance register from SOL-Tirocini - Internships where you will find the allowed period of your internship.

In case you plan an internship at internal structures of the University of Bologna

In order to apply, please select the internal hosting structure from the list of the available University structures (see file “Internship opportunities at the University of Bologna" and obtain the approval of the related contact person.

On SOL-Tirocini - Internships:

  1. Insert “Alma Mater Studiorum” as hosting institution;
  2. Complete the information by selecting the specific University structure you are interested in;
  3. Follow the guidelines you will receive at your Unibo email;
  4. Download the attendance register from SOL-Tirocini - Internships where here you will find the allowed period of your internship.      

Please, remember that:   

If you have already a safety certification - module 1 - obtained outside of the University, you must verify its validity by writing to formazione@unibo.it.

Once obtained the confirmation of the validity, please send the confirmation mail received by formazione@unibo.it and your safety certification to the Internship Office.

The safety certification - module 2 - must necessarily be obtained by the University of Bologna.

Safety certifications - module 2 - obtained outside the University of Bologna are not accepted.

you can start your internship only after all the involved partners have signed your internship programme and only after you have downloaded the attendance register.

In case you plan an internship abroad

You can carry out an internship abroad:

  • By selecting a hosting institution abroad, following the same procedures as for Italian hosting institutions

In case you wish to get recognized extra-university activities as an internship

If you have already carried out extra-university activities (for example working activities) and you wish to get recognized them as an internship, please read the information about “Aknowledgent of extra-university activities as a curricula internship” available at the area “Studying” of your degree programme website.

How to activate an internship

When the Hosting Institution accepts your interniship request, link to SOL-Tirocini-Internships and: 

  1. follow the guided procedure you will receive on you Unibo email;
  2. download the attendance register from SOL-Internships where you will find the allowed period of your internship.

Agree with your Academic Tutor and with the Host Contact Person your learning objectives and activities, the time lines to achieve them and all the other details required to complete the internship programme.

Important: before the internship, complete online Health and Safety Training (Module 1 and Module 2). Your Hosting Institution is in charge of confirming its validity.

During the internship

Refer to your Academic Tutor for any support or advice you may need on how to carry out your activities.

Possible business trips must be previously communicated by the tutor of the Hosting Institution to the internship office by mail - arin.tirocinilettere@unibo.it - and to your Academic Tutor who must allow them.

The University of Bologna guarantees insurance cover against accidents at work and third-party liability claims. Please, for more info visit this link “Insurance for students”.

Record your daily activities in the attendance register.

In case of changes (for example: interruption or cancellation of the agreed internship programme), you must inform your internship office by mail  - arin.tirocinilettere@unibo.it -  and in cc your Academic Tutor and your Tutor at the Hosting Institution.

What to do at the end of the internship

The internship, like any other course in your study plan, must be recorded on AlmaEsami.

 After completing the required internship hours, you have to log in to  SOL-Internships, in order to:

  1. enter the date of your last day of internship;
  2. upload your attendance record book, completed with required data and signature of the tutor of the Host organization ;

3. fill out the internship questionnaire. Your answers, which we ask you to provide carefully, will help us monitor the progress of the internships and, if necessary, will allow us to intervene to improve them. Thank you

Please note: if you are about to graduate, the registration of the internship must take place within the deadline for "meeting the admission requirements" , therefore you must upload the required documents to SOL-Tirocini at least 10 working days before the abovementioned deadline.

  • After uploading the documentation and completing the questionnaire:

    • the internship office checks the attendance register;
    • the academic tutor evaluates  the internship and  registers  on AlmaEsami
