Curricular internships are learning activities that allow students to obtain credits contemplated in the course structure diagram of their degree programme, which also allow to acquire practical skills and make initial contact with the job market.
Curricular Internship and Final Examination Preparation are independent; however, it is possible to carry out Final Examination Preparation following the curricular internship and on the same topic by submitting specific application for the Final Examination Preparation indicating the relevant period.
All students who intend to do an internship must take the mandatory Health and Safety Training.
Contacts with companies are handled by the Internship Service to whom one can turn for information and clarification.
The application for curricular internship and/or final test preparation must be submitted at least 20 days before the start of the activity so that the approval process can be completed.
To activate the curricular internship and/or final test preparation, you must follow all the directions in the " Administrative Procedure" section.
The curricular internship is a compulsory educational experience provided for in the educational plans, characterized by practical activities carried out in facilities within the University or outside the University, in Italy or abroad.
The curricular internship corresponds to 12 ECTs; there is no minimum number of credits earned in order to apply for the internship, but it can only be carried out after obtaining the signature of attendance of classes in the first year of the course.
The curricular internship must be included in the study plan during the period of its submission.
In preparation for the Final Examination, the student may choose to carry out practical and research activities at external institutions and companies or at laboratories within the University. These preparatory activities can be entered in the career to specify the nature of the work performed and recorded with an eligibility. A student who will carry out practical work in preparation for the final examination in Italy or abroad must break down the final examination into two parts:
- 84547 Final Examination preparation (if in Italy) + B1495 Final examination discussion (8 ECTs)
or
- 84548 Final Examination preparation abroad + B1495 Final examination discussion (8 ECTs)
The breakdown should be chosen as often as practical laboratory activities are conducted in preparation for the thesis on an ongoing basis.
84547 - Final Examination preparation in Italy
If you choose this activity you intend to activate an internship whose duration will be 300 hours (12 ECTs) and must be completed within 12 months from the start date.
84548 - Final examination preparation abroad
If you choose this activity you intend to prepare the thesis abroad for example through participation in a call for international University mobility (e.g.: Call for Foreign Thesis, Erasmus+, etc.). Identification of the host institution and definition of the activities are to be agreed with the thesis advisor. The activity must have a duration of 300 hours (12 ECTs).
37849 - LM Final Examination
If you choose this activity you intend to prepare a thesis that does not involve continuous attendance either at University facilities or at external entities (companies/institutions).
This activity should always be included in the plan if you chose not to include the activity 84548 Final Examination Preparation Abroad or 84547 Final Examination Preparation in Italy.
Companies already affiliated: log on to the internship application and submit a self-application or apply to the predefined offers.
Non-contracted companies: a company (where no relatives or relatives-in-law work) must be contracted prior to the start of the internship. In order to activate the procedure, the name and relevant e-mail address of the company contact person must be provided to the Internship Service. It is necessary to keep in mind that the stipulation of the agreement requires administrative time that cannot be quantified in advance, so it is advisable to activate in good time. Once the agreement has been activated, connect to the internship application and submit a self application.
The host structure will have to provide for the approval and compilation of the agreed internship program, indicating the exact period through the internship application.
After the online approvals and signatures of the Academic Tutor and the Internship Committee, the online acceptance and signature of the Intern and the Host Institution is required.
The student will then be able to download the attendance record; the internship must take place in accordance with the content and timeframe outlined in the internship program.
At the end of the procedure, the Internship Service will verify the file and then there will be an evaluation by the Academic Tutor, the verbalization of the curricular internship and the verbalization of the preparation of the final exam.
In case of justified and documented impediments, you may suspend or discontinue the activity, upon email notification to the Internship Service.
The University provides insurance coverage for trainees against accidents at work and third-party liability only for the period expressly authorized and indicated in the internship program.
In case of injury, an email should be sent to: dipscmedvet.amministrazione@unibo.it.
Please note that if you are in the process of graduating, it is necessary that the process described in the "Upon Completion" section be completed by the deadline dates related to meeting the requirements for graduation.
How can we help you: Activate and manage a curricular internship or one for the preparation for the final dissertation, in Italy and abroad, outside of international mobility programmes.
