Curricular internships are learning activities that allow students to earn credits included in the course structure of their degree programme, while also helping them acquire practical skills and make initial contact with the job market.
The Curricular Internship and Final Examination Preparation are independent activities; however, it is possible to carry out the Final Examination Preparation after completing the curricular internship and on the same topic, by submitting a specific application indicating the relevant period.
All students intending to undertake an internship must complete the mandatory Health and Safety Training.
Contacts with companies are managed by the Internship Service, which can be contacted for further information or clarification.
The application for the curricular internship and/or Final Examination Preparation must be submitted at least 20 days before the intended start date, to allow time for the approval process.
To activate the curricular internship and/or Final Examination Preparation, you must follow all the instructions provided in the “Administrative Procedure” section.
The curricular internship is a compulsory educational activity included in the study plan, consisting of practical experience carried out either within the University facilities or in external organizations, in Italy or abroad.
The curricular internship is worth 12 ECTS. There is no minimum number of credits required to apply for the internship; however, it can only be undertaken after obtaining confirmation of attendance for all first-year courses.
The curricular internship must be included in the study plan during the submission period.
In preparation for the Final Examination, students may choose to carry out practical and research activities at external institutions and companies, or in University laboratories. These preparatory activities can be formally recorded in the student’s academic record to reflect the nature of the work carried out, and will be assessed with a pass/fail (eligibility) grade.
Students who undertake practical work in preparation for the Final Examination, either in Italy or abroad, must split the Final Examination into two parts:
84547 – Final Examination Preparation (if in Italy) (12 ECTS) + B1495 – Final Examination Discussion (8 ECTS)
or
84548 – Final Examination Preparation Abroad (12 ECTS) + B1495 – Final Examination Discussion (8 ECTS)
This option should be selected when practical or laboratory activities are carried out on an ongoing basis as part of the thesis preparation.
84547 - Final Examination preparation in Italy
By choosing this activity, you are agreeing to undertake an internship lasting 300 hours (12 ECTS), which must be completed within 12 months from the start date.
84548 - Final examination preparation abroad
By choosing this activity, you intend to prepare your thesis abroad, for example by participating in an international University mobility programme (e.g.: Call for Foreign Thesis, Erasmus+, etc.). The host institution and the planned activities must be agreed upon with your thesis advisor. The activity must have a duration of 300 hours (12 ECTs).
37849 - LM Final Examination
By choosing this activity, you intend to prepare a thesis that does not require continuous attendance at University facilities or external entities (companies/institutions).
This activity must always be included in the study plan if you choose not to include 84548 – Final Examination Preparation Abroad or 84547 – Final Examination Preparation in Italy.
Companies already affiliated: log on to the internship application and submit a self-application or apply to the predefined offers.
Non-contracted companies: a company (where no relatives or relatives-in-law work) must be contracted prior to the start of the internship. In order to activate the procedure, the name and relevant e-mail address of the company contact person must be provided to the Internship Service. It is necessary to keep in mind that the stipulation of the agreement requires administrative time that cannot be quantified in advance, so it is advisable to activate in good time. Once the agreement has been activated, connect to the internship application and submit a self application.
The host structure will have to provide for the approval and compilation of the agreed internship program, indicating the exact period through the internship application.
After the online approvals and signatures of the Academic Tutor and the Internship Committee, the online acceptance and signature of the Intern and the Host Institution is required.
The student will then be able to download the attendance record; the internship must take place in accordance with the content and timeframe outlined in the internship program.
At the end of the procedure, the Internship Service will verify the file and then there will be an evaluation by the Academic Tutor, the verbalization of the curricular internship and the verbalization of the preparation of the final exam.
In case of justified and documented impediments, you may suspend or discontinue the activity, upon email notification to the Internship Service.
The University provides insurance coverage for trainees against accidents at work and third-party liability only for the period expressly authorized and indicated in the internship program.
In case of injury, an email should be sent to: dipscmedvet.amministrazione@unibo.it.
Please note that if you are in the process of graduating, it is necessary that the process described in the "Upon Completion" section be completed by the deadline dates related to meeting the requirements for graduation.
How can we help you: Activate and manage a curricular internship or one for the preparation for the final dissertation, in Italy and abroad, outside of international mobility programmes.
