KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The Master’s graduate possesses knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects related to:
- the functioning of animal metabolism and its interactions with environmental, managerial, and organizational factors of animal production systems;
- the operation of animal production systems which, thanks to the integration of managerial skills and methodological tools for information management, are addressed from a circular perspective;
- livestock farming technologies for different species of zootechnical interest (including fish species);
- the fundamental concepts of evaluating the economic and environmental impacts of entrepreneurial decisions in the field of animal production;
- strategic and operational planning of economic initiatives in the field of animal production;
- innovation management in companies operating in the animal production sector.
Knowledge and understanding are acquired through lectures and practical activities carried out both within the Department (teaching farm, dairy, animal housing facilities, and feed mill) and in affiliated companies.
These competences are assessed through practical work, examinations, and additionally during the curricular internship and the preparation of the final thesis.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The Master’s graduate is able to:
- apply acquired knowledge to improve animal and production system efficiency in terms of sustainability, productivity, and quality of animal-derived products;
- organize and manage animal production systems in different environmental contexts, aiming to optimize economic, environmental, and social performance with the support of advanced data collection and management technologies;
- develop complex business development strategies and models supporting entrepreneurial decision-making;
- manage organizational change processes, particularly the introduction of new technologies in animal production systems.
These skills are developed through individual and group activities involving the critical re-elaboration of knowledge acquired during lectures and practical sessions. Case studies and individual/group assignments contribute to skill development, alongside the curricular internship and final thesis preparation.
Assessment is carried out through written and oral exams, reports, and practical assignments, as well as through the internship and thesis.
MAKING JUDGEMENTS
The Master’s graduate:
- is able to conduct research on a predefined topic and has an operational understanding of the subjects addressed;
- demonstrates autonomous analytical skills and critical evaluation abilities in professional contexts, and is capable of addressing various issues and aspects related to their professional activity by identifying the most appropriate specific solutions.
Autonomy in judgement is developed through practical exercises, laboratory activities, individual and group work, and the preparation of the final thesis. The curricular internship also contributes to achieving autonomy and teamwork skills.
Assessment is based on final tests within each course and on the evaluation of written assignments.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
The Master’s graduate:
- is able to communicate in English, using modern and effective tools, information, ideas, issues, and analytical results to both specialist and non-specialist audiences;
- is capable of presenting in written and oral form topics related to the degree course, with appropriate terminology and synthesis skills.
Written and oral communication skills are particularly developed through laboratories, seminars, exercises, and other learning activities that include the preparation of reports and written documents, as well as their presentation using digital tools.
These skills are assessed during exams (written or oral) and especially through the drafting, presentation, and discussion of the final thesis.
LEARNING SKILLS
The Master’s graduate:
- is able to stay updated on methods, techniques, tools, technologies, and regulations related to the profession through consulting publications, documents, and databases;
- can select and interpret data and information;
- is able to apply interpersonal skills in social and professional contexts;
- is able to undertake further studies (PhD, Master’s programs, specialization schools) with a high degree of autonomy.
Learning skills are mainly developed during lectures through logical frameworks and case-based approaches. They are also strengthened through group work, participation in exercises and seminars, and the preparation of written reports.
These skills are assessed continuously throughout educational activities and during the preparation of the final thesis.
