Health biology

The programme introduces students to themain causes of human pathology and the modern diagnostic methods that aim toidentify and prevent them and monitor the therapy applied to the clinicalcondition diagnosed.

From this basic knowledge, the programmethen focuses on specific aspects:

- diagnostics: students learn the mostcommon analysis techniques based on biospecific reagents, methods ofmicrobiological diagnosis of infectious diseases, virology and parasitologydiagnostics, methodical approaches to analyse Mendelian and complex genetictraits and the advanced molecular diagnostic techniques applied to oncology,forensic methods;
- nutrition: students acquire thephysiological basics of nutritional science and learn the correlations betweenunhealthy eating habits and different pathologies; they also learn the cell andmolecular basics of nutrient-related diseases;
- pharmacology: students learn the processesand essential principles that regulate drug development and the methods used tocarry out regulated clinical trials;
- biology laboratory management: studentsfurther develop their knowledge in relation to quality control andcertification in biology laboratories.

Admission to the degree programme in HealthBiology requires possession of a first cycle degree acquired in one of theclasses provided by Ministerial Decree 270/04, Ministerial Decree 509/99, Law508/99, or of a first cycle degree acquired under the previous system, or of abachelor degree awarded after three years of study, or of a foreignqualification recognised as suitable. Additionally, it requires possession ofcurricular requirements and to have passed an assessment test.

Curricular requirements

In addition to the mentioned degrees,candidates must have acquired 40 CFU in four or more of the followingscientific sectors (SSD):

BIO/09 Physiology, BIO/10 Biochemistry,BIO/14 Pharmacology, BIO/16 Human Anatomy, BIO/18 Genetics, BIO/19Microbiology, MED/04 General Pathology, MED/42 General and Applied Hygiene.

Assessment test
Admission to the second degree programme requires candidates to pass anassessment test that will be held according to the methods defined in theTeaching Regulation of the degree programme.

Additionally, candidates will be tested ontheir English language skills, proficiency level B1.
