Students onthe second cycle degree/two year master Programme in Information, Cultures andMedia Organisation (class LM 19) will acquire knowledge and skills useful forprofessional roles in the information sectors and they will receive technicaland operational training which can be applied in the fields of multimediaproduction and media management.
In relationto the first aspect, the programme will enable students to acquire knowledgeand develop advanced skills in the historical-political, sociocultural andmedia organisation subject areas with a view to equipping them with the abilityto take an analytical and in-depth approach to the examination of information.In particular, students will:
-acquireknowledge in the historical-political subject area enabling them to furtherinvestigate the evolution of historical national and international contexts,the history of communication and journalism, gender, ethnic and cultural issuesand modern political dynamics
- acquireknowledge in the sociocultural subject area enabling them to furtherinvestigate techniques for image processing and analysis, types of public andconsumers, and the social implications of the use of social media and the web
- acquireknowledge in the media organisation subject area enabling them to furtherinvestigate media organisation systems, information system methods andtechniques, television and cinematic production techniques and the regulatoryframework governing intellectual property.
In relationto the second aspect, the master's degree programme enables students to acquirethe knowledge and skills necessary to work in the information and mediaorganisation fields through workshop activities and/or internships incollaboration with operators in the world of communication (newspapers,television groups, communications agencies). In this context, in order tostrengthen the cultural and professional profile of the students, the degreeprogramme includes the organisation of conventions, conferences, seminars andcurrent affairs analysis workshops with the participation of adjunct lecturers,also from foreign universities and institutions, and of national andinternational professionals working in the information and media field,complementing the teaching delivered through lectures and expanding theprogramme catalogue by developing a dynamic relationship between scientificresearch, teaching and participatory teaching activities.
The degreeprogramme offers students the possibility to acquire or improve their foreignlanguage skills, strengthening their knowledge of English (mandatory module)and a second language chosen by the student (some prior knowledge of thelanguage is required and there is the possibility of studying modules inrelated areas). The teaching and assessment methods as well as the programmecontent are proposed for each programme by the Programme Coordinator, approvedby the Degree Programme Board and published in the online student guides.The Master'sDegree Programme in Information, Cultures and Media Organisation aims toprepare students for professional roles in the fields of social mediamanagement, audiovisual and multimedia communication, information (asspecialists), publishing and public relations. While not able to providestudents with direct access to the profession for legal reasons, the degreeprogramme nonetheless produces graduates with the required level of preparationto apply to journalism schools and for journalism apprenticeships.
In accordance with the applicable laws in force,graduates may also continue their university studies and go on to study for athird-cycle degree, undertaking research or professional studies(specialisation school, research PhD, second level master's).
