9247 - International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs
The secondcycle degree programme in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs setsout to train professional figures able to analyse, interpret, assess and managethe issues pertaining to the international dimension of political, economic andsocial phenomena in both the public and private sector.
These figures run fromgeopolitical analyst working for think-tanks or businesses operatinginternationally to journalist specialised in foreign policy issues, officer ininternational organisations or humanitarian worker in NGOs. The programmetherefore includes course units that further study political systems andinternational historical, political and economic structures, also incomparative terms.
During the first year of theprogramme, the course includes mandatory units in international politics andeconomics, with a particular focus on the issues of international security andthe problems of the global economic system. Aiming to foster the application ofthe knowledge acquired to concrete historical contexts, the programme alsoincludes the mandatory study of one of the numerous different subjectsavailable.
The second year offers morechoice for the students from a list of elective courses, including onemandatory course which is consistent with the disciplinary area they intend todevelop or in which they feel they have most abilities: politics, history, law,economics, sociology.
In both years, students can choosean elective course allowing them to further investigate a field of study theyare most interested in or feel they are most skilled in.
The core courses in theprogramme, which can be conveniently balanced by the students with a vast rangeof elective courses in the various subject areas, one of the broadest in thisdegree class (52) in Italy, allow each student to gain basic theoreticalknowledge while tailoring the programme to suit their own professionalaspirations, among those listed in this programme sheet.
To conclude, the degree programmepays specific importance to languages, which are fundamental for working ininternational relations at any level. Students are required to study a secondforeign language in addition to English (certified to level B2 on entry).
