14. I voti degli esami in esubero contribuiscono alla media voti finale?
Di default i voti degli esami in esubero vengono calcolati nella media finale. Tuttavia lo studente può scegliere quali esami far rientrare nella media finale e quali escludere semplicemente deselezionando il flag a fianco dell’insegnamento sotto la sezione dedicata al piano di studi su Studenti Online. Tale scelta, però, viene considerata “variazione al piano di studi”. Di conseguenza lo studente che decide di avvalersene dovrà laurearsi nell’anno accademico per il quale viene presentato il piano di studi.
15. Posso rimuovere dal piano di studi un esame in esubero non sostenuto?
E’ possibile chiedere la rimozione dal piano di studi degli esami in esubero non sostenuti scrivendo una mail con una richiesta in tal senso alla Segreteria Studenti (segscform-lingue@unibo.it) almeno una settimana prima della presentazione della domanda di laurea.
16. Posso sostenere un esame del secondo anno al primo e farmelo verbalizzare l’anno seguente?
Per potersi iscrivere a un appello d’esame tramite l’applicativo Almaesami è necessario avere inserito l’insegnamento nel proprio piano di studi. Di conseguenza non è possibile sostenere durante il primo anno esami appartenenti al secondo anno del corso di studio.
17. Come posso scegliere il Relatore per la tesi di laurea?
Possono essere Relatori di tesi i responsabili di attività formative previste nella programmazione didattica dell’Ateneo, purché svolgano attività di ricerca coerente con gli obiettivi del corso. Non è necessario avere nel piano di studi un insegnamento del proprio Relatore, ma è sufficiente avere sostenuto un esame appartenente allo stesso Settore Scientifico Disciplinare (SSD) al quale appartiene il Relatore.
18. E’ obbligatorio avere sia un Relatore che un Correlatore?
È obbligatorio avere sia un Relatore sia un Correlatore, di cui almeno uno appartenente al Dipartimento di Lingue, Letterature e Culture moderne e preferibilmente al Corso di laurea LSC.
Il Correlatore può anche essere un Cultore della materia o un docente o ricercatore di un altro Ateneo, anche straniero.
In casi particolari il Relatore può scegliere di nominare un secondo Correlatore esperto linguistico.
19. In quale lingua va scritta la tesi?
La tesi va scritta in una delle due lingue studiate dal/la candidato/a, nel caso in cui l’argomento scelto faccia riferimento a una delle due lingue: in questo caso è obbligatorio che il Relatore o il Correlatore appartenga a un settore scientifico-disciplinare di ‘Lingua e Traduzione’ o comunque perfettamente in grado di svolgere tale ruolo. Se invece l’argomento scelto fa riferimento a un insegnamento non linguistico allora la tesi deve essere redatta in lingua inglese.
In entrambi i casi, l’abstract deve essere scritto in lingua inglese.
20. Quanto deve essere lungo l’elaborato?
L’argomento della tesi va approfondito nell’ambito di un lavoro di minimo 50 e massimo 60 pagine (ad esclusione di eventuali appendici, corpora di testi, documentazione di materiale ed altro). Ogni pagina deve contenere 32-35 righe di 65-70 caratteri. I font accettati sono: Times New Roman, Courier o Helvetica.
21. Posso utilizzare il tirocinio per preparare la tesi di laurea?
C’è la possibilità per lo studente, in procinto di laurearsi, di utilizzare il tirocinio come fonte di ricerca per la propria tesi di laurea. Deve comunque trattarsi di un lavoro con mansioni congruenti al profilo didattico del Corso di studio: non è possibile accettare come tirocinio un periodo di studio.
Il tirocinio per tesi prevede due opzioni a seconda che abbia luogo in Italia o all'estero. Gli studenti del secondo anno, interessati a svolgere un tirocinio per tesi, dovranno innanzitutto scegliere nel proprio piano di studi l'opzione di spacchettamento della tesi e quindi inserire il codice relativo all'opzione desiderata.
Il tirocinio per tesi deve avere una durata di almeno 300 ore e vale 12 dei 24 CFU complessivi della tesi di laurea. Maggiori informazioni sono disponibili alla seguente pagina web:

22. Posso preparare la tesi di laurea all’estero?
Gli studenti al II° anno di corso che intendono avvalersi delle opportunità di ricerca all’estero per la preparazione della propria tesi possono usufruire sia dei diversi bandi per mobilità all’estero (Erasmus+ Studio, Erasmus for Traineeship etc...) attivi presso l’Ateneo di Bologna sia dei bandi per tesi all’estero proposti dal Dipartimento di Lingue, Letterature e Culture Moderne.
Gli studenti che intendono preparare la tesi all'estero dovranno innanzitutto scegliere nel proprio piano di studi l'opzione di spacchettamento della tesi e quindi inserire il codice relativo all'opzione desiderata.

23. Come viene assegnato il voto finale?
INDICAZIONI PER GLI IMMATRICOLATI PRIMA DELL'A.A. 2021/22
Il voto finale della tesi viene assegnato sommando a una base di partenza, costituita dalla media ponderata dei voti conseguiti negli esami di profitto, un massimo di 7 punti aggiuntivi, comprensivi anche del punto bonus per mobilità internazionale. I punti aggiuntivi vengono assegnati in base alla valutazione della dissertazione di laurea e all'esito della discussione.
INDICAZIONI PER GLI IMMATRICOLATI A PARTIRE DALL'A.A. 2021/22
La Commissione valuterà l’opportunità di attribuire sino a un massimo di 7 punti, in aggiunta al punteggio risultante dalla media ponderata degli esami. Il voto dell'esame di laurea, pur tenendo in debito conto quest’ultima, la rapporterà tuttavia al giudizio specifico riguardante la tesi e la sua esposizione orale in sede di discussione e terrà conto delle eventuali esperienze all’estero per studio, tirocinio e ricerca per tesi di laurea.
Le eventuali lodi conseguite negli esami di profitto non hanno alcuna incidenza sul punteggio finale: l'eventuale aggiunta della lode al punteggio finale di 110/110 – che deve essere comunque preventivamente concordata dal Relatore e dal Correlatore – è dunque esclusivamente a discrezione dei Commissari.
Per avere un'idea concreta di quale base di partenza sia necessaria per conseguire il punteggio massimo nel voto di laurea bisogna convertire la media dei voti degli esami di profitto, calcolata in trentesimi, in centodieci. Per fare ciò bisogna prima moltiplicare la media ponderata per centodieci e poi dividerla per trenta.
Ad esempio, con una media di 28/30 la base convertita in centodieci diventa (28*110)/30 = 102,666 che viene arrotondato per eccesso a 103. Con una media di 29/30 la base diventa (29*110)/30 = 106,33. In questo caso viene applicato l'arrotondamento per difetto, quindi la Commissione parte da 106.
Visto quanto scritto sopra, per avere la possibilità di conseguire 110 e lode bisogna partire da una media voti pari almeno a 28. Ovviamente più la base si avvicina a 110 maggiori sono le possibilità di ottenere il voto massimo.

24. Posso ritirarmi dopo aver presentato domanda di laurea?
Nel caso in cui il/la candidato/a non riesca a laurearsi una volta presentata la domanda di laurea può ritirarsi dandone comunicazione alla Segreteria Studenti, scrivendo una mail dal suo indirizzo istituzionale a segscform-lingue@unibo.it. In tal caso i soldi già versati non verranno rimborsati, ma se il/la candidato/a presenterà nuovamente domanda di laurea per un'altra sessione all’interno dello stesso anno accademico, non dovrà versare nulla.
25. Posso presentare domanda di laurea dopo la scadenza?
E' possibile presentare domanda anche dopo la scadenza ("Late application"), ma in tal caso è necessario versare un’indennità tardiva di € 100, in aggiunta all’imposta di bollo da € 32. Gli esami del piano di studi devono essere verbalizzati entro la data di scadenza per la presentazione dei requisiti per la laurea.
It is not possible to register for the interview of assessment of competence and skills without a Bachelor's degree with a minimum vote of 105/110.
The purpose of the interview is to ascertain that the candidate has reached at least B2 level of language proficiency of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), as described in the document Common Reference Levels on the CEFR website.
The outcome of the interview will involve an assessment of eligibility or non-eligibility for admission.
7. How will the lessons be held in the academic year 2026/27? Will they be only in remote mode or will they be held also in classroom-based mode?
During the academic year 2025/26, lessons will take place exclusively in presence, with the exception of some activities that may be delivered remotely. Further provisions will be announced on the Master's Degree website.
8. Some of the lessons I wish to attend have overlapping schedules. Is it possible to solve this problem?
Although the people in charge of writing the lesson timetable do the utmost to avoid overlapping, this is not always possible. There are usually two possible solutions: talk to the teachers to see if they can find a solution (it is difficult, but sometimes it happens) or agree with other students to exchange notes. It is also recommended that courses be spread out between the first and second years, bearing in mind that many courses can be chosen either in the first or second year. This applies not only to language courses, but also to courses in group 03 - Historical, Geographical and Economic Disciplines in the first year and group 02 - Supplementary Disciplines in the second year.
9. Is class attendance mandatory?
In the course of study in Language, Society and Communication class attendance is optional, although it is strongly recommended. Non-attending students can also take exams.
10. Is it possible to be enrolled simultaneously in the Master's degree course in Language, Society and Communication and in the initial training programme for secondary school teachers?
It is possible to enrol in a qualifying university course of initial training worth 60 credits even without having yet graduated. However, pursuant to Article 2-ter, paragraph 1 of Legislative Decree 59/2017, participants enrolled in a master's degree course or single-cycle master's degree course or a second-level diploma course in higher education in art, music and dance may only take the final exam of the course after they have actually obtained their degree.

11. Are there any preparatory courses in the study plan? For example, can I take English for Specific Purposes 2 before English for Specific Purposes 1 or is there an order to be respected?
Generally speaking, the LSC didactic plan does not contain any preparatory courses, so for example it is possible to take English for Specific Purposes 2 before English for Specific Purposes 1. However, the teachings of the Russian language entail preparatory activities: for educational reasons, Russian Linguistics 1 must be taken before Russian Linguistics 2.
12. Is it possible to include redundant exams in the study plan?
It is possible to insert redundant exams in the study plan only in the second year, in group 03 - Elective Disciplines. It is possible to choose up to 90 credits of redundant courses.
13. Can I choose an exam from another course of study?
It is possible to freely choose exams from other open access courses of study. It is also possible to choose exams from other restricted access courses of study. In this second case you must follow the following steps:
14. Are the grades of redundant exams included into the final grade average?
By default, the grades of redundant exams are included in the final average. However, the student can choose which of the redundant exams to include in the final average and which to exclude by simply selecting or deselecting the flag next to the name of the course under the section dedicated to the study plan on Studenti Online. This choice, however, is considered "variation to the study plan". Consequently, the student who decides to use it will have to graduate in the academic year for which the study plan is submitted.
15. Can I remove a redundant exam I have not taken from the study plan?
It is possible to request the removal from the study plan of redundant exams you have not taken by writing an email with a request to the Student Administration Office at e-mail address segscform-lingue@unibo.it at least one week before submitting the application for graduation.
16. Can I take a second year exam during the first year and have it registered at the second year?
To be able to enroll to an exam session through the Almaesami application, the exam must be included in your study plan. Consequently, it is not possible to take exams belonging to the second year of the course of study during the first year.
17. How can I choose the Supervisor for my graduation thesis?
Supervisors can be professors of subjects belonging to a teaching activity falling within the Teaching Planning of the University of Bologna, as long as their research activity is coherent with the Degree Course Objectives. It is not necessary to have in the study plan a teaching of the Supervisor, but it is enough to have taken an examination belonging to the same Scientific Disciplinary Sector (SSD) to which the Supervisor belongs.
18. Is it mandatory to have both a Supervisor and a Co-Supervisor?
All students must have both a Supervisor and a Co-Supervisor: at least one of them must belong to the Department of Languages, Literatures and Modern Cultures and preferably to the Master’s Degree in Language, Society and Communication (LSC). Co-Supervisors may also be merely experts of the subject (Cultori della materia) or professors/researchers from other Universities (including foreign Universities).
In particular circumstances, the Supervisor can choose to have a second Co-Supervisor who is a language expert.
19. In what language should the thesis be written?
The final thesis must be written in one of the two languages that the candidate has studied, if the topic she or he has chosen is related to one of the two languages: in this case either the Supervisor or the Co-Supervisor must necessarily belong to a Scientific-Disciplinary Sector of “Language and Translation” or must be perfectly capable of carrying out this task.
The final thesis must be written In English, if the topic is related to a non-linguistic activity.
In both cases, the abstract must be written in English.
20. How long does the thesis have to be?
The topics of the thesis must be investigated in a written paper of a minimum of 50 to a maximum of 60 pages (not including possible appendices, text corpora, material documentation etc.).
The drafting of the thesis must be the following: pages of 32-35 lines, each one containing 65-70 letters. Accepted Fonts: Times New Roman, Courier o Helvetica.
21. Can I use an internship to prepare my graduation thesis?
The student who is about to graduate can use the internship to do research activities in order to prepare his/her thesis. The activities, however, must be consistent with the educational profile of the course of study: a period of study is not accepted as an internship. The thesis internship has two options depending on whether it takes place in Italy or abroad. Second year students who are interested in adding a thesis internship to their study plan should include the code related to the selected option.

22. Can I prepare my thesis abroad?
Second year students who want to exploit the opportunities of research abroad for the preparation of their thesis can take advantage of both the various calls for mobility abroad (Erasmus+ Studio, Erasmus for Traineeship etc...) active at the University of Bologna and the calls for thesis abroad proposed by the Department of Languages, Literature and Modern Cultures.
Students who are interested in preparing their thesis abroad must select the code related to the desired option in their study plan.

23. How is the final grade awarded?

The final thesis mark is assigned by adding a maximum of 7 additional points, including the bonus point for international mobility, to a starting base consisting of the weighted average of the marks obtained in the exams. The additional points are awarded based on the evaluation of the thesis and the outcome of the discussion.
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED FROM THE A.Y. 2021/22
The Commission will assess the opportunity to award up to a maximum of 7 points, in addition to the score
resulting from the weighted average of the exams. The degree exam mark, while taking the latter into due consideration, will nevertheless relate it to the specific assessment of the thesis and its oral presentation during the discussion and will take into account any experience abroad for study, internship and research for the degree thesis.

Any praise obtained in the examinations has no impact on the final score: any addition of praise to the final score of 110/110 – which must be agreed in advance by the Supervisor and Co-Supervisor – is therefore at the discretion of the Commission Members.
To get a concrete idea of what starting basis is necessary to achieve the maximum score in the degree grade, we need to convert the average of the grades of the exams, calculated in thirtyths, into one hundred and ten. To do this you must first multiply the weighted average by one hundred and ten and then divide it by thirty.
For example, with an average of 28/30 the base converted to one hundred and ten becomes (28*110)/30 = 102.666 which is rounded up to 103. With an average of 29/30 the base becomes (29*110)/30 = 106.33. In this case the rounding is applied by default, so the Commission starts from 106.
Given the above, in order to be able to achieve 110 and praise, you must start with an average grade of at least 28. Obviously, the closer the base is to 110 the greater the chances of getting the maximum grade.

24. Can I retire after applying for graduation?
In the event that the candidate fails to graduate once the application has been submitted, he/she can withdraw by giving notice to the Student Secretariat by writing an email from his/her institutional address to segscform-lingue@unibo.it . In this case the money already paid will not be refunded; however, if the candidate applies again for graduation in another session within the same academic year, he/she will not be required to pay anything.
25. Can I apply for graduation after the deadline?
It is possible to apply even after the deadline (‘Late Application’), but in this case a late € 100 fee is required in addition to the € 32 stamp tax. The exams of the study plan must be recorded before the expiry date for the submission of the graduation requirements.
