The one-day study trip to Ridracoli dam (Santa Sofia, Forlì-Cesena, Emilia Romagna Region) was conducted on May 15th 2023

Students were briefed about the water metrics of the Emilia Romagna region and given an introduction to links between human engineering and the natural landscape. The visit included informational sessions in the operating room; meetup  with the engineer at the artificial barrier of the dam; and the Idro Ecomuseum tour.

The degree programme comprises of theoretical aspects of resource valauation and sustainable resource policies to name a few, and this educational tour complemented the students' knowledge with the practical aspects amidst the breathtaking views of the Po river delta.

Student testimonial

I enjoyed the visit very much. I particularly enjoyed the visit to the interactive museum on the afternoon and to the dam itself.

I feel like I learned interesting things regarding the history of the dam and of the society that manages it, Romagna Acque.

It was an interesting experience to learn and see how the Ridracoli dam works and functions, its history, and its importance in the Emilia-Romagna region. During our courses, we talked about hydroelectric power, so it was quite fascinating to see a hydroelectric power plant in practice, as well as talk with professionals that work there.

The three-day study trip to Sardinia (Cabras and surroudings) was conducted on May 25th-27th  2023

A group of students had the opportunity to visit the marine protected area of the Sinis Peninsula wherein they could learn of the various conservation regulations applied by the local and national government. The trip included a visit to the archaelogical area in Tharros, the Cabras museum; the research center CNR-IAMC in the marina and the onshore power plant in Macchiareddu, Cagliari. Sardegna is endowed with unique natural resources and the trip concluded with a visit to the "Is Arutas" (grains of rice) beach - a natural quartz beach which is unique in terms of beauty as well as the strict policies of the locality for its preservation.

Amidst the pristine landscape settings, the students had an opportunity to see the nature they will aim to conserve with sustainable policies in the future.

Visiting Sardegna was a truly great experience filled with much joy and excitement. I had the chance to learn about the ancient history of the region, speak with researchers from the CNR-IAS institute and see their workplace, and visit protected quartz beaches all while having a great time with friends and colleagues.
