Tips on Arrival in Rimini

When do current students/alumni think is the best time to arrive to Rimini before your classes?

Tips on Accommodation in Rimini
  1. Regarding the accommodation in Rimini: What do they suggest to you?
  2. Join the Facebook Group: Affitti Studenti Rimini, you will find a lot of offers there.
  3. Look for offers by the university on the wall in Via Anghera, you can find some notices.
  4. Convenient places to live in are the Center and San Giuliano. The surroundings by the seaside are nicer and less expensive but it takes you a minimum of a 20 minutes’ walk or the need of taking the bus/bike to reach the university.
  5. Do not trust accommodation intermediaries, search on your own without an agency.
  6. Very useful website for rooms: www.easystanza.itwww.subito.itwww.bakeca.itwww.kijiji.it .
  7. Always check google maps to understand better the distance between the university and the chosen accommodation before you go for any deal.
  8. Recommended to stay in one of the hostel near the university Sunflower Hostel or Jammin Hostel for one week before and then search for an accommodation. These hostels are the most economic.
  9. Talk to ex-students they might be leaving their rooms and you could take their place.
  10. Try to email the international office in the Rimini campus, they might have some offers.
  11. Ask Erasmus students, could be that they are leaving their rooms soon
  12. Try to speak to local students before accepting any offer, they know better.
  13. Landlords usually ask you to sign a contract for 6 months or 1 year. If you want to leave earlier you will probably have to pay a fine.
  14. Always remember, even if you want to leave with respect to the contract, you must send by post an official notice called Racommandata during a specific date mentioned in the contract
  15. Keep in mind that the contracts are in Italian, you better have an Italian speaker with you to read and understand what you are signing on.
  16. Most of the landlords ask for a deposit money in advance, around 2 months’ rent value and they will give you the deposit money after you leave the room and you pay your last bill, and they inspect that nothing is broken or needs reparation.
  17. Something not everybody knows even the landlords, is that there is a type of contract especially for students called “cedolare secca” which is free for both the landlord and the students. Because most of the other contracts you will need to pay an amount for the registration of the contract, sometimes around 60 euros divided by you and the landlord. If the landlord is using the “cedolare secca” type, none should pay for registration.

Tips on Applying for the Residence Permit
Regarding your  Residence Permit in Italy: Tips from non-EU applicants
  • Your first residence permit will be given as the same period of your visa. For example if you have a visa for 3 months and you paid for a 1 year period residence permit, you will get the permit for only 3 months. Therefore, be smart and do not make your insurance for more than 6 months at the beginning (if you can and if you have your Visa for less than 6 months) and do not apply for 1 year residence permit at the beginning. Wait until you get the first one as your Visa period and then apply for one year. However, if you have your visa for one year, then you can ignore this advice.
  • Ask the embassy in your home country as many questions as you need before coming here, they have answers and they speak your language.
  • Most of the people working in the Questura do not speak English. Be ready for that.
  • Make a copy of all the documents required and keep them with you.
  • If you are doing it for the first time, ask the help of the international office and/or Immigration offices. They will tell you if the documents are correct and complete. It will save you some time. They usually speak English in the immigration offices . It is a time consuming and complicated process, therefore asking the help of a professional is important.
  • When applying for the residence permit, be ready for a long queue. Maybe you would cancel some plans because you will be late.
  • When picking up your residence permit. Usually you receive an SMS with the date and time. Come as the appointment and ignore the queue. Do not do my mistake and wait in the queue because if you have an appointment you can directly enter and how them the SMS.
  • There is mainly many Questura that you might be confused about. Ask the tutor which one to go for which reason. For example the place where you apply for the papers is different than picking up the papers and different than doing your finger prints for the first time.
  • Make sure you apply for it minimum 2 weeks before its expiry date.
  • Keep in mind, after applying for the residence permit via the post, you will be given a Receipt. This receipt is enough for you to travel between Italy and your country (even if your residence permit is expired, in case of renovation). However, you cannot have transit in a country that require usually a Visa for you.
  • Issuing a residence permit will require minimum one month since your last meeting (the finger prints). Keep that in mind, especially if you have travel plans.
  • You might face some not very nice treatment and impatient employees. Do not take it personal!
