Programme enrolment: requirements, deadlines and methods

Admission to the International Master Degree Programme in Science for the Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage (S.Co.Re) requires a 1st cycle Italian degree or equivalent bachelor achieved at legally recognised Institutions in Italy or abroad - see the Call for Applications for all the details.

The evaluation of the applications is performed by the Admission Board, which decides about eligibility based on the following requirements:

• The suitability of the applicants’ degree: to profitably attend S.Co.Re degree programme it is necessary to have acquired basic knowledge in scientific disciplines (in particular: chemistry, physics, geology, biology) as well as possible further knowledge in conservation (archaeology, art history, architectural restoration, etc.) that will be considered as an asset

• The suitability of the applicants’ personal preparation and motivation (academic background, curriculum vitae and statement of purpose)

• Proficiency in the English language (at least level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference). If no valid English certification is held (see details below), language skills will be assessed by the Admission Board with an oral interview.

Graduating students can also apply. If positively evaluated, they will be allowed to enroll on the condition that they obtain their undergraduate degree by and no later than December 30th, 2024.

In order to apply, prospective students need to register to Studenti Online www.studenti.unibo.it, and select the menu “Admission Application - Take part in the selection”. Download the step-by-step guide to the application from the Attachments Box.

The following materials must be uploaded in the online application:

1. Front and back copy of your Passport or other valid identity document in English
2. Resumé or Curriculum Vitae, including significant academic/work experiences in the fields related to the Master’s Degree
3. Official transcript of academic records of your bachelor's degree, containing a list of exams with grades (GPA or similar), the name of the final degree and the final grade
4. Personal statement of purpose (max 1 page)
5. Proof of English proficiency - at least B2 level:

• Language proficiency test (Idoneità) already held by the applicant, released by the University of Bologna Linguistic Centre (CLA-UNIBO) or by other Italian Universities;
• Internationally recognized language certifications, such as TOEFL, IELTS, etc. (minimum scores to be considered equivalent to B2 level being the following: IELTS 5,5; TOEFL PBT 507-557; TOEFL CBT 180-217; TOEFL IBT 80-99; Cambridge First Certificate (FCE); Trinity College of London ISE II)
• Graduates in a degree programme taught in English and English native speakers MAY be exempted from the assessment upon decision of the Admission Board

No preliminary evaluation of documents submitted by email will be carried out.

Only complete applications (having all the compulsory documents uploaded by the deadline) will be evaluated by the Admission Board. 

It is highly recommended to apply as early as possible, in particular for non-EU applicants who, if admitted, have to undergo pre-enrollment procedure at the Embassy or Consulate in their country within due date. 

If the Admission Board deems that an applicant meets the requirements, the application light will turn green (Positive Evaluation: Admitted) on the online system; otherwise, the application light will turn red (Negative Evaluation: Not Admitted).

The Applicants’ background preparation is assessed based on their academic records and the documents they provide along with their application, such assessment resulting in an irrevocable decision by the Admission Board.

If deemed necessary, the Admission Board CAN ask candidates to sit an interview aimed at checking the possession of the required competencies and skills (English language included).

Summoned candidates will be informed with an email to their personal Unibo address
name.surname@studio.unibo.it in order to arrange an appointment with the Admission Board (online meeting available). Failure in arranging/undertaking the interview by the set deadline will result in the refusal of the application.

If you are Admitted to the degree programme, you will be able to enrol following the steps outlined in the Call for applications.

If you have a foreign qualification (obtained outside Italy), take action well in advance to collect the necessary documents for enrolment - read the specific information. 

If you are a non-EU citizen resident abroad, read carefully the specific information prepared for you as you are required to go through the pre-enrollment procedure on Universitaly portal - see also the relevant side box on the right. Please note that pre-admission letter is not necessary anymore and therefore no letter will be provided to admitted applicants for visa purposes.
