"Laser techniques in restoration and replication of sculptural monuments in Saint Petersburg city"

The presentation will provide a brief overview of the practical works on the use of laser techniques in the preservation of historical and cultural monuments in Saint Petersburg city, which were carried out by the scientific group of the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University in cooperation with specialists from museums and restoration companies from 2006 to 2018. These works include laser cleaning of marble sculptures of the collection of State museum-preserve “Tsarskoye selo”, State Russian museum
and St. Petersburg State museum of Urban Sculpture. Moreover, examples of replication and reconstruction of some marble and zinc sculptures carried out by means of 3D laser scanning and
additive technologies will be presented. In addition to case studies, some actual scientific issues concerning the accuracy of 3D scanning and replication of monuments will be presented and discussed.
