ENGLISH B2 TEST: News for the 2023/2024 academic year

The CLA organizes test sessions to assess English language skills for the candidacy of international master's degrees.

 The test results in a CEFR level equal to the student's competence: Oxford Online Placement Test therefore recognizable as an incoming B2 certification


1) Only those who wish to apply for Innovation and Organization of Culture and Arts curriculum can take the test

2) The test will be administered online via the Oxford platform with the support of the Zoom platform for proctoring. The test can be taken from home.

3) The shifts reserved for those wishing to enroll in Innovation and Organization of Culture and Arts are:

Round 1: 23 February h. 9, 24 February h.11 deadline for enrollment 20 February 2023

Round 2: 20 March h.9, 21 March h. 11 deadline for enrollment 14 March 2023

Round 3: 17 April  h. 9, 18 April h.11 deadline for enrollment 12 April 2023

4) The interested student must send an email to the address by the deadline of each round

5) To participate, the student must have an address @ If you are not a unibo student or if you have not already obtained for other initiatives (Almaorienta for example), you must pre-accredit yourself using the Studenti On-Line (SOL) platform on the Unibo website by obtaining credentials

6) All information on how to access the test will be communicated through the unibo institutional email address BEFORE THE TEST

The Program is taught entirely in English. 

Please note that the attendance at the GIOCA courses is compulsory.


Number of available places and deadlines

In order to guarantee the quality of the educational environment, admission to the GIOCA Program is regulated by a selection process evaluating the applicants' academic preparation, CV and language ability.

For the a.y. ​2022/23, the total number of students to be admitted is 30: 
  - 15 positions are reserved for Non-EU students
  - 15 positions are reserved for Italian and EU students

Students who have not completed their first level degree (Bachelor's) may participate in the selection process, but they must graduate before October 31, 2022.

To be admitted to GIOCA it is necessary to have:

  • at least a first level degree (Bachelor’s) or an equivalent degree in any discipline from an Italian or foreign university that has been deemed eligible;
  • English language knowledge is required. Candidates must possess a minimum B2 level or equivalent in order to be admitted to the selection procedure. Proof of their English language (minimum B2 level) is demonstrated by submitting any one of the following:
     -   Certificates: TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English Language Assessment, Trinity College London, issued no longer than 6 years prior to the deadline for application. To check the correspondence with the B2 level, please refer to the conversion table available at
    - Attended a first cycle degree held in English (to indicate on the CV form).
    - Passed a B2 level English exam in their previous academic study plan.
    - English is the student's mother tongue (to indicate on the CV form).
    - Have carried out an exchange / internship period of at least 3 months in an English-speaking country.
    - Have completed an exchange / internship period of at least 3 months in English in a non-English-speaking country.
    - Have a good general knowledge and notions of culture and the arts and have a strong vocation for the relevant contents and topics of the Program.

Admission Procedure

Admission to GIOCA is regulated by an evaluation of the candidate’s preparation. The selection is composed of two parts:

  1. An evaluation of the CV and of the other documents submitted;

    + evaluation of English language certificate higher than B2 level

    + evaluation of the reference letter (optional)

  1. An interview to evaluate the commitment, attitude and skills of the candidates and to ascertain the English level. 

To facilitate the participation of students living abroad, it will be possible to hold the interview through video conference methods (please read carefully the application procedure).

How to apply

The application procedure is available online at STUDENTIONLINE. No paper applications will be accepted.

To register to the application process a fee of 50,00 € is required.

By the deadline, candidates must upload (pdf format) the following required documents:

1) The Curriculum Vitae by filling the “CV Form” published on this page.

2) A copy of a valid identity document (ID card or passport);

3) For Non-EU students: a copy of the permit of stay, if you already own it;

4) A transcript of the First Cycle Degree (Bachelor’s) or of any certification mentioned in the CV;

5) English language certificate; 

6) Optional: Reference letter. 

Information for International students

If you are an international student (NON-EU), you must do the pre-enrolment at the Italian Embassy for your country in order to apply for entry Visa for reasons of study

EU and Non-EU students with a foreign degree, once admitted to GIOCA, next to complying with the rules and deadlines established by the University of Bologna, must pre-enrol online through the Universitaly portal by July 2020. For more information:

Tuition Fee Amounts

Tuition fees are calculated based on the 2022 ISEE value with special subsidies in relation to the right to higher education. First year students with an ISEE of up to €24,500 benefit from full exemption. Above this limit, tuition fees are calculated progressively.

The ISEE value must be submitted, even if you have not enrolled in the Degree Programme, by 2 November 2022, at 6:00pm (or by 15 November 2022, at 6:00pm, paying a €100 penalty) accessing ER-GO Online Services, alternatively you will have to pay the full amount.

If you are an international student, verify how your tuition fees will be calculated according to your country of origin and the country where your family has income and assets.

After you have checked that all the admission requirements have been met, you can enrol on  Studenti Online:

  1. fill in the application for matriculation with the required information and attach a passport photo in digital format;
  2. pay the first instalment of your tuition fees;
  3. follow the instructions to complete the procedure which you will find on Studenti Online according to your profile.
