Admission information for International Students (non-EU)

PLEASE NOTE: This section is dedicated to NON-EU students with residency abroad (Type 3 student on this list). The admission procedure to the course is the same for UE and Extra-UE and you can find it here in the box right-top.

In this page the Extra-UE Students can just find more information in English about the procedure and documents requests, together with usefull information about about Pre-Enrollment and Visa procedures, italian language requirements and procedures to study in Italy.

Admission

Curriculum requirements

If you hold a foreign University degree certificate, the Evaluation Board will assess whether you meet the requirements set. Your Bachelor's dregree should refer to one of the following fields:

  • Industrial Design
  • Visual arts, music, performing arts and fashion studies 
  • Civil and environmental Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Information Technology Engineering
  • Architecture
  • Building Sciences

Admission to the degree course is subject to the knowledge of the English language (at least B1 level).

Adequacy of the academic preparation

Admission to the Master's degree in Advanced Design is conditional on the successful assessment of the adequacy of the candidate’s preparation by an Evaluation Board.

The interview (either in person or on Skype) with the Board will assess the candidate's academic curriculum and level of expertise in the field of Design also through a presentation of the candidate's portfolio.

FAQs

1. Can non-EU students apply to this Master's programme?

Yes, although access is limited to 6 spots (2 of which are reserved to Chinese citizens within the Marco Polo programme – see below note “Marco Polo students”).

Please note all lectures are taught in Italian, so you are required to have strong Italian language skills (minimum B2). Read more information on the dedicated webpage.

Non-EU students with residency abroad are required to complete pre-enrollment at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their country. As pre-enrollment may take several weeks/months of processing, it is highly recommended to get in touch with the relevant offices as soon as possible. Learn more about pre-enrollment here.

MARCO POLO STUDENTS:

Chinese students participating in the Marco Polo programme are invited to apply after carefully reading the relevant information. For a.y. 2020/21, the Master’s Degree in Advanced Design has a reserved quota of 2 Marco Polo students.

3. How do I apply?

Please read the information concerning enrollment for those holding a foreign degree carefully.

Applications are submitted online through our StudentiOnline platform. Interviews can be held on Skype, please email elena.formia@unibo.it with your Skype ID at least 2 days before the interview date and you will receive further instructions.

4. What documents should I upload as part of my application?

Candidates are required to submit the following documents:

  • Copy of a valid passport
  • Copy of your academic transcript of records (or Diploma Supplement) in English

PLEASE NOTE: Your Bachelor’s degree should refer to one of these fields:

5. What happens after I have applied?

You will need to regularly check your institutional email address (which is created when you register on StudentiOnline and ends with @studio.unibo.it).

Please note that the Evaluation Board will send you all relevant communications through this email address, including date and time of the interview.

6. Are there scholarships available?

Students interested in applying for scholarships and grants for International Students (Unibo Action 2, Unibo Action 1, Er-go support services, MAECI grant) should be aware that these applications involve an additional and different procedure. We suggest that applicants apply for scholarships offered by the University of Bologna as early as possible.

7. How do I find accommodation in Bologna?

Applicants should themselves take care of their Bologna’s lodgings: securing a position in a Master’s degree does not imply being granted accommodation as well.
