What are and how to fulfill OFA

What are OFA

Starting from the academic year 2023/2024, the Veterinary Medicine course requires:

  1. Adequate knowledge and skills as published in the admission notice.

In particular, to be admitted to the selection, it is necessary to take the TOLC-VET.

EU citizens and equivalents are eligible for admission to the course and inclusion in the national merit ranking only if they have achieved a minimum equalized score of ten (10).

Non-EU citizens residing abroad are not subject to this minimum eligibility threshold. For the latter ones, in case of admission to the course with a score lower than five (5), an additional training obligation (OFA) will be assigned, which consists of participating in support training activities activated by educational tutors.
  2. English language proficiency at (at least) B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

How to fulfill OFA

1. Adequate knowledge and skills

The assigned additional training obligation is considered fulfilled by:

- passing a specific verification test consisting of text comprehension, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and reasoning, which will take place on the days determined by the course Council and will be announced shortly on the Course's website;

- or, alternatively, by acquiring (verbalizing) at least 35 CFU from the mandatory first-year educational activities.

2. English language proficiency at (at least) B1

English language proficiency at B1 level is verified by passing the "English Language Proficiency Test - B1 level" administered by the University Language Center.

Students who achieve a result corresponding to or exceeding B1 level demonstrate the required English language skills for access to the course and will not be assigned any additional training obligations (OFA).

For information on the English language test, you can refer to the dedicated "Language skills assessment test" page.

Exemption from the English language knowledge test

Students who have already obtained a B1 level certification from the University Language Center based on previously acquired certifications or have already passed a B1 level English language proficiency test in a previous university course are exempt from the mandatory English language knowledge test.

OFA and enrollment in the first year as a repeater

Students who do not fulfill the additional training obligations (OFA) by March 31 of the year following their enrollment will not be able to take exams in the following years and will be required to re-enroll in the first year.

Example: for students enrolled in the academic year 2023/2024, OFAs and their related tests must be fulfilled/passed by March 31, 2025.
