5819 - Economics, Politics and Social Sciences

The degree programme in Economics, Politics and Social Sciences is a multidisciplinary project designed to promote and develop economic, political, legal, statisticaland business knowledge and competencies.
The aim is to train specialistsin the management of Public Administrations and private companies as well asspecialists in economic and political science, offering access to second cycledegrees in all social science areas (economic, political-social, legal,business and statistics) at the University of Bologna.
The economic nature of theprogramme focuses heavily on the typical multidisciplinary dimension ofpolitical science, with emphasis on highly innovative statistical tools. Inaddition to core course units in economics and political science, the degreeprogramme therefore provides the quantitative competencies required to performempirical analyses in social and international legal sciences.
The Degree Programme has 5semesters common to all students and the final semester devoted to specificinvestigations and the drafting of the dissertation. In the first year,students tackle course units in all macro-subject areas (economics, statistics andmathematics, political-social, legal and business studies) helping to buildbasic knowledge in various fields. In the second year, this knowledge isdeveloped in other subject areas and in-depth studies (e.g. statistics andeconomics). In the third year, the students all have a common semester and thenchoose a study track: one on economic and social data analysis and research(Data Analysis), one on public administration with particular reference toeconomic and management aspects (Public Economics & Management) and onefocusing on international economic political aspects tackling issues relatingto inter nationalpolitics and economic development (Global Political Economy).
The Degree Programme includes ITlaboratories introducing students to big data analytical techniques, usingstatistical knowledge useful for these analyses and acquiring competencies inthe main programming languages, including R or Python.
All tracks in the degreeprogramme meet the requirements of both classes (L-33 and L-36), allowingstudents to choose which class to graduate in up to the final year.
