What OFAs (Additional Learning Requirements) are and how to fulfill them

To enroll in the degree programme, it is essential to have some basic knowledge. The knowledge assessment methods are detailed on the Enroll in the Degree Programme page, and it aims to ensure that there are no significant gaps in specific subjects.

If the assessment test shows gaps in one or more topics, students can still enroll but must complete additional activities, known as Additional Learning Requirements (OFA).

To check whether an OFA has been assigned, students must access their academic record and verify if the following exams are listed: “essential logical-mathematical skills” or “Italian language comprehension skills”

If you’ve been assigned an OFA, in the academic year following matriculation you will be enrolled as:

• second year student if you have fulfilled the OFA.
• second year student on a “conditional basis” until the OFA is fulfilled, and it cannot be completed later than March 31^st. Once the OFA is completed, the enrollment status will change from second year student on a “conditional basis” to second year student.
• As a first-year repeater if the OFA is not completed by March 31^st . Important: Students registered as repeaters cannot take second-year exams.

To fulfill the OFA, students must attend a course led by a tutor and pass the subsequent test. Courses will be held in the first semester and in the second semester, and students can choose to attend in either semester.

Attendance is mandatory, requiring participation in at least 5 out of 7 lessons. Any additional absences must be justified as soon as possible with appropriate documentation, such as a medical certificate or employer declaration. If attendance requirements are not met, students will not be allowed to take the final test to pass the OFA.

Important: As an alternative to the above methods, all assigned OFAs are considered fulfilled if the student passes all first-year exams within the designated deadline for the OFAs.

For students enrolled in the 2023/24 academic year, the deadline to complete the OFA is March 31, 2025.

The same rules and deadlines apply to students who have chosen the flexible study plan.

For students enrolled in the 2024/25 academic year, the deadline to complete the OFA is March 31, 2026.

To pass the OFA, students must attend a course led by Tutor Dr. Carnevali and pass the related test.

AlmaMathematica is a project by the University of Bologna, coordinated by the Department of Mathematics and the Alma Mater E-learning Field, aimed at improving mathematical preparation for incoming university students transitioning from high school to higher education.

Target Audience: University of Bologna students who have been assigned an OFA in mathematics. They can prepare for the exam, practice online, and join the AlmaMathematica Community.
