Aims

The workshop aims to teach basic skills for the digital surveying of artefacts and their digital reconstruction using two different methods: Structure from Motion photogrammetry and Structured Light Scanning. It offers theoretical knowledge on the main acquisition operations and aims to develop practical skills on operating methods and the use of technical equipment (digital camera and structured light scanner), as well as providing the necessary knowledge to process the acquired data.

Program

The workshop consists of about 20 hours of practical activities carried out collectively in the Topography Laboratory through which students will acquire the following practical skills:

  1. Photogrammetric acquisition with fixed camera and rotating support;
  2. Processing of photographic series and creation of digital model
  3. Acquisition with Structured Light Scanner;
  4. Processing of LS scans and creation of digital model
  5. Creation of a hybrid object with data processed by the two acquisition methods

The workshop will be completed with an additional 5 hours of individual activity that can also be carried out remotely assisted or in the Topography Laboratory itself.

At the end of the workshop, students will have acquired the ability to digitally capture small and medium-sized artefacts using SfM photogrammetry and LS scanning.
