If you wish to add courses from other areas, you need to ask confirmation to the relevant International Relations Office and forward us their response. Here you can find all contacts.

Almost all the courses of Engineering and Architecture are open to incoming students (with few exceptions), but pay attention to the semester in which the course is held

UNIBO offers courses in Engineering and Architecture in four different campuses: remember to choose units within the campus you have been nominated for.

Campus change is only allowed when there are no equivalent/available courses in the destination campus, with the approval of the referent teacher.

When courses are divided in two or more modules (moduli), you must take all the modules.

We also offer some “I.C.” (Integrated Courses). That means that the “big” (integrated) learning activity is made of single course units, which can be taken also singularly by exchange students.

How to double check if you can take only one module or unit?

If the course is divided into modules you will have just one code for the whole learning activity, while I.C. have one code for the whole course and two or more single codes for the single units. Only in the latter case you will be able to take the exam for the single unit(s), provided that you fill in your study plan accordingly.

So read the details of each result carefully and use the filters to facilitate your search.

The list of Degree Programmes offered by UNIBO is here. You can use the filters to narrow your search according to campus, language of teaching, and study level.

You will find the link to each Degree Programme website. We suggest you click on the tab Programme and then on Course structure diagram to consult the course units offered within each Degree Programme and when they are planned, if in the first semester (September-December) or in second semester (February-July).

Our programmes workload is 30 ECTS credits per semester, but you are free to take less or more, according to your home University requirements.

Please note that 1 Italian university credit (CFU) equals 1 European credit (ECTS), accounting for a total of 25 study hours, that include both traditional lectures/distance learning/laboratories and your study at home.

One tip: if you choose course units taught within the same year of the same degree programme, classes timetables and exam dates will never overlap.

This might happen in case you choose courses from different years or different programmes.

Preparation of the final exam / thesis at UNIBO

It is possible to carry out your research / thesis preparation or final exam at UNIBO.

First you need to get in touch with your exchange coordinator who can help you to find a supervisor for the thesis project at UNIBO.

Once the supervisor has been found, he / she must contact the e-mail address engineeringarchitecture.international@unibo.it confirming that he/she is the student's supervisor.

Subsequently, the activity 87645 Final Project for Engineering-Architecture Incoming Students (12 credits/CFU) can be included in the Learning agreement. This activity can be included in the study plan and will appear in the Transcript of Records with a PASS/FAIL mark.

PLEASE NOTE: it is not possible under any circumstances to take the final exam, nor to discuss one's thesis at UNIBO. The only possible activity is that of thesis preparation.

Submitting your learning agreement

You have to submit your Learning Agreement uploading it on AlmaRM. We will sign your Learning Agreement! There is no current deadline on our side to receive it, but we suggest you send it before your arrival.

Registering to classes

After receiving our approval on your Learning Agreement, you will just need to fill in your online study plan accordingly. You will be able to do it via StudentiOnline after you check-in at UNIBO International Relations Division upon your arrival. As International Relations Office for the Areas of Engineering and Architecture, we will help you with any academic issue.

Registering to exams

You must register in order to take exams. You can do it on StudentiOnline clicking on AlmaEsami. On AlmaEsami you will find a list of the course units included in your study plan and all exam details (date, room etc.). Registrations usually open 2-3 weeks before each exam date (appello) and remain open until a couple of days before the exam date.

Attending classes

Attendance is not compulsory in Italian public Universities. Nonetheless, we advise you to attend all classes. There might be some exceptions or specific course materials for non-attenders, so always check the syllabus and introduce yourself to the teacher.

Couses taught in italian

You can attend Italian taught classes if you do speak Italian. UNIBO does not require any certification, but at least an A2 CEFR level is recommended. Be honest in self-assessing your Italian language knowledge: exchange students are treated just as enrolled students and will sit the same kind of exam. You cannot take the exam in language different than the language of teaching.

Italian languages courses

If you are interested in improving your Italian, check this page. The University Language Centre (CLA) offers Italian language courses worth 5 ECTS credits that you can include in your Learning Agreement. These courses have no code and you do will not have to insert them in your online study plan.

Accomodation

Check this link for any information about accommodation. Important: Bologna welcomes a large number of students each year (more than 3000!) and housing can be an issue. Start looking for accommodation well in advance!
