Programme enrolment: requirements, deadlines and methods

To be eligible to enrol in the Master’s degree course in Interpreting, you need to meet the following language proficiency and curricular requirements, and to pass the entrance exam ranking among the top 32 candidates for the ConfInt curriculum, or the top 15 candidates for the InTeCo curriculum.

You must hold, or be about to obtain, a degree in one of the following classes:

ex D.M. 270/04:

• classe L-11: LINGUE E CULTURE MODERNE
• classe L-12: MEDIAZIONE LINGUISTICA

ex D.M. 509/99:

• classe 3: SCIENZE DELLA MEDIAZIONE LINGUISTICA
• classe 11: LINGUE E CULTURE MODERNE

Previously available 4-years Italian degrees:

• “Traduzione e in Interpretazione”
• “Traduttore e Interprete”
• “Lingue e Letterature straniere moderne”

If you have or are about to obtain an undergraduate degree that is not mentioned above, including any degree obtained outside of Italy, your degree will be screened by the entrance exam commission. If it is deemed eligible, you will be allowed to participate in the entrance exam.

The entrance exam for the curriculum in CONFERENCE INTERPRETING will take place on Monday July 1, Tuesday July 2, and Wednesday July 3, 2024, ON CAMPUS at the DITLab, Viale Lombardini 5 – Forlì.

If you have or are about to obtain a non-Italian undergraduate degree, or if you are a “non-EU citizen with residency abroad”, you may take the entrance exam ONLINE, provided that you ask for it upon application in Studenti Online. In any case, you will take the entire exam on one single day. You will know the exact date of your exam on June 24, when the exam schedule will be published on this page, or in the details of your application in Studenti Online (the latter being the official notice). You may not ask to be assigned to a different day.

The purpose of the entrance exam is to assess your listening comprehension and oral production skills in Italian and the two other languages that you choose as your Language B and Language C in your application. Additionally, the exam will test your knowledge about the current affairs, general culture and contemporary history of Italy and the Countries where your Languages B and C are spoken. You will find the evaluation criteria in section 5 of the Call for applications.

The exam has FOUR PARTS:

• In PART 1 you will listen to an Italian audio text that is between 3 and 4 minutes long, and then reproduce orally its content into your Language B.
• In PART 2 you will listen to an audio text in your Language B that is between 3 and 4 minutes long, and then reproduce orally its content into Italian.
• In PART 3 you will listen to an audio text in your Language C that is between 3 and 4 minutes long, and then reproduce orally its content into Italian.
• In PART 4 you will have to answer orally to a question about the current affairs, general culture and contemporary history of Italy and the Countries where your Languages B and C are spoken. You will have to answer in Italian about Italy and the Countries where your Language B is spoken, while you will have to answer in your Language C about the Countries where your Language C is spoken.

If you are not an Italian native speaker, you may use your Language B instead of Italian when answering about Italy and the Countries where your Language B is spoken, provided that you ask for it and attach the necessary documentation upon application in Studenti Online. In this latter case, you will still have to answer in your Language C about the Countries where your Language C is spoken.

The entrance exam for the curriculum in INTERPRETING AND TECHNOLOGIES FOR COMMUNICATION will take place ONLINE on Friday, June 28, 2024. You will know the exact times for connection on June 24, when the exam schedule will be published on this page, or in the details of your application in Studenti Online (the latter being the official notice). On June 24, the link or separate links for connection will be sent to your name.surname@studio.unibo.it email account generated after your registration to Studenti Online.

The purpose of the entrance exam is to assess your listening comprehension, summarizing, and oral production skills in Italian and English, according to the evaluation criteria set out in section 5 of the Call for applications. The exam has TWO PARTS:

• In PART 1 you will listen to and watch an Italian audiovisual text that is between 3 and 4 minutes long, and then summarize orally its content into English.
• In PART 2 you will listen to and watch an English audiovisual text that is between 3 and 4 minutes long, and then summarize orally its content into Italian.

On what platform will the exam take place? 

The exam will take place on ReBooth, a platform designed specifically for interpreting exams. Before accessing ReBooth to take the exam, you will have to connect to a Zoom session for identification procedures and preliminary instructions. Please download and install Zoom on your smartphone or other device different from the PC where you will be using ReBooth. ReBooth is browser-based and cannot be downloaded, but please make sure that you have one of the following browsers installed and updated on your PC: Chrome (version 80 or following), Firefox (version 75 or following) and Edge (version 80 or following).  

What documents will I need to keep at hand on exam day? 

You will need an ID. If possible, make sure it is the same ID that you entered upon registration to StudentiOnLine. 

How will I access the exam? 

You will receive an invitation to join a Zoom session in the days prior to the exam at the yourname.surname@studio.unibo.it account that was generated when you registered on StudentiOnLine. All relevant communications will come to the same account. Please check it regularly.  

On exam day, immediately before the exam, you will receive an invitation link to ReBooth on this same account. To log in, you will need to enter your Unibo email address (which is your username) and password.  

How can I make sure that my connection and equipment are suitable for the exam? 

Please make sure that the PC on which you will take the exam has a webcam and that you have a headset and a microphone. You will also need another device (i.e. a smartphone, tablet or another PC) to connect to the Zoom session. To maximise your connection, we suggest that your PC is connected to the router via an ethernet cable. If you feel this may not be enough, disconnect any other device in the house from the internet connection that you are using. This includes SmartTVs, gaming consoles, and other family members’ smartphones and devices.  

Can I take notes during the exam? 

Yes, you may take notes. However, we suggest that you experiment with the demo videos (you will find them linked on this same page) whether taking notes is fruitful or not.  

Will all videos be subtitled? 

Yes, the videos that will be used for the entrance exam will have automatically generated subtitles, just like the demo videos. Please note that automatically generated subtitles may contain errors. In that case, you will be assessed against the original speech, not the subtitles.  

How many times will I watch the videos? 

You will only watch each video once. You may not pause or stop it. The Teacher will control the playback. 

Can I consult dictionaries or other sources during the exam? 

Yes, you may consult dictionaries or other sources during the exam. However, we suggest that you experiment with the demo videos (you will find them linked on this same page) whether doing so is fruitful or not. Note that nobody can be in the same room as you or help you remotely during the exam. 

What happens after the exam? 

After the teacher has asked you to leave the ReBooth session, you will just have to wait until July 19th, when results will be published in StudentiOnLine.  

Entrance exam rankings will be published on July 19, 2024 in the details of your Studenti Online application.

If you fall within the number of places available for your student category, you may proceed to matriculation (enrol) on Studenti Online, within the deadline set out in the Call for applications and referenced in the Deadline section of this page.

There will be a second enrolment phase aimed to fill any places still vacant after the first enrolment phase. Vacancies for each curriculum will be filled based on the respective rankings of successful candidates.
