The programme focuses on the study of marine organisms and ecosystems and applicable scientific methods. It is the only programme in Italy to combine theoretical training with a high number of practical experiences and innovative teaching methods, providing the knowledge needed to manage and analyse experimental data also through a wide range of specialised and vocational courses.
In addition to foundations in oceanography, geology, chemistry and applied statistics, the 1st year offers in-depth studies in botany, zoology, physiology, microbiology, ecology, experimental design and law. In the second year, the programme may be customised with subjects such as pollution, monitoring, conservation, biotechnology, fisheries management and scientific diving; some of these are taught in English.
A network of international collaborations and projects by lecturers, along with active partnership agreements and various scholarship opportunities (e.g. Erasmus+ Study, Erasmus+ Internship Mobility, Overseas), enable students to carry out pre- and post-graduation internships and to prepare their thesis at foreign institutions and companies.
