The aim ofthe Second Cycle Degree/two year Master programme in Mechanical Engineering isto equip students with a high level of technical, scientific and professionaltraining to enable them to work in the field of mechanical engineering. Theprogramme will prepare mechanical engineers to work on the design andproduction of complex mechanical systems, the small or large-scale productionof highly technical articulated products, the representation of components andassemblies, thermal and fluid machinery and mechanical systems for motiontransfer in industrial settings.
Graduates of the Second Cycle Degree/two year Master programme inMechanical Engineering will have gained the ability to design, develop andmanage complex and/or innovative systems, equipment, processes and services ofa highly technical nature in the fields of mechanics and automated systems.
The interdisciplinary training received by the mechanical engineer onthe two year master' programme is supplemented by the core and related subjectsaimed at producing professionals with a broad spectrum of knowledge and skillsand a good working knowledge of English. Students learn about business cultureand industrial economics and ample space is reserved for the study of themodern methods of assisted design, modelling and simulation. The existingexperimental laboratories and IT equipment allow students to furtherinvestigate the theoretical concepts and applicative aspects learned inlectures.
Students may also undertake internships to prepare for their finalexamination through the collaborative agreements in place with national orinternational companies and public organisations.
Like many other curricula, the programme centres around a set of corelearning activities that fall under the scope of the mechanical engineeringdisciplinary area.
In this regard, the first year of the programme provides an in-depthknowledge of the basics of mechanical engineering and topics in relation to:
- energy transformation systems and fluid machinery, both drive andoperating
- kinematics, statics and dynamics of multi-block serial architecturesystems and mechanisms in general
- predicting deformability and resistance of mechanical components inmetallic materials subjected to loads
- functional and constructive representation of the components ofmechanical assemblies
- optimisation and improvement of working processes
- management of industrial facilities and logistics.
From the second semester of the first year and throughout the secondyear, the programme is divided into different curricula that include numerousrelated and supplementary modules aimed at equipping students with specialistknowledge and allowing them to customise their degree to suit their interests.
Finally there is strong focus on and support for laboratory work, internships and the dissertation in collaboration with companies, as well asperiods of study abroad (Erasmus exchange programme).
Graduates of the Second Cycle Degree/two year Master programme inMechanical Engineering will quickly and effectively enter the world of work orgo on to further develop their knowledge and skills by enrolling on asecond-level professional master's degree or a PhD in the engineering andscientific disciplines.
Additionally, candidates must meet the curricular requirements andpass an assessment test.
