PhD programme in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies

Information on opportunities offered by the DIT Department to students who want to pursue their studies further, with a third cycle degree in the areas of translation, interpreting and intercultural studies.

The Department of Interpreting and Translation hosts a PhD Programme in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies

The Phd Programme lasts three years, and includes learning activities and the writing of an original book-length research work ("the thesis"), under the supervision of at least one member of the Doctoral panel.

During the Phd Programme, students spend a minimum of 6 months abroad, pursuing their research in Departments relevant to their areas of interest. They attend summer schools, workshops and conferences, where they may present work-in-progress reports about their research in the form of presentations or posters. They also write articles for publication in journals or edited volumes.

A Call for applications is issued every year in Spring, for entry in October of the same year. Differently from other countries, in Italy most Doctoral students are fully funded, i.e. they don't pay fees and are given a monthly allowance (of about 1,000 euros). The number of scholarships available is advertised in the Call, which also contains detailed information about the selection procedure.

Visit the Programme website, or contact the Programme coordinator, Raffaella Baccolini, if you want to know more.
