The University of Bologna team participating in the 2025 edition of The Hague Inter University Law Debate Tournament has claimed first place.

The team was composed of LEGS students Guleycan Yildiz, Mahmud Bayramov, and José Molinelli — who also received the Best Speaker award — and was coached by Salah Chkairi and Elizaveta Vorobey, both former competitors and alumni of our LLM programme, with support from Prof. Mauro Gatti.

The Hague Inter University Law Debate Tournament is an international competition that brings together students from 32 universities worldwide. Since its inception in 2015, The Hague Debate Tournament has been hosted annually in The Hague, to promote the study of international law and its real-world applications.

This year, the University of Bologna joined the competition for the fourth time. The Unibo team faced off in an intense final round debate against a team from Prince Sultan University (Saudi Arabia). This came after a remarkable run of victories over law debate teams from the Latin American University of Science and Technology, the University of Maryland, the University of Birmingham, Tilburg University, the University of Zambia, and the University of Lagos.

With this year’s wins, the University of Bologna now holds the record for the highest number of match victories in the history of The Hague Inter-University Law Debate Tournament.
